What part of "Body of Comment" underneath the "Body of Thread" when you're posting an article don't you understand?
How many times have I logged onto FR and see the main page, only to be greeted with threads such as "Democrats challenge Bush on Iraq" (Thanks again cut-and-run conservatives!) or "Giuliani addresses crowd in California" (GO RUDY! THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN BEAT HILLARY!)?
Isn't it annoying? (Expected FReeper responses: "Then don't click on the threads then moron!" or the "Aw Geez, not this s--t again picture.")
OFFICIAL USE OF PARENTHESIS IN THREAD TITLE ETIQUETTE
(1) Location. Listing the appropriate state in the title is fine. For example, if a plant is closing somewhere ("Tecumseh to shutdown Aurora (IL) facility") that's when putting the state in parenthesis is helpful to FReepers, because it seems that every state has a Springfield in it (Cue Simpsons music).
(2) Political party affiliation. We all know that the lying, scum-sucking MSM never puts the Democrat in the title of their slanted article if he or she is accused of corruption. So yes, put a big fat DEMOCRAT in your title parenthesis. But just limit it to DEMOCRAT, OK? We already know that they're lower than cockroach droppings. I don't need to see (CORRUPT, SLEAZY LOW-LIFE DEMOCRAT INDICTED) "New Jersey Senator accused of taking bribes."
(3) Political office. I need to know if it's a Governor, U.S. Senator, state Senator, state representative, etc. Unfortunately, there are two Kennedys in Congress. So, whether it be The Swimmer or The Rx Abuser, it's OK to put the first name of that person in the title if there's more than one last name.
(4) Country. There is also a Georgia in Russia. If news breaks from there, then it's OK to put (Not US Georgia) in parethensis next to title.
(5) First name. Unfortunately again, there are two Clintons. Please let readers know if it's the Impeached POTUS or the Queen.
If there's any more examples, please feel free to add!
That switch to decaf isn't working....is it?
;-)
PS: If I catch you, your nads will be my dog's new chew toy.
"Everytime I'm in the kitchen, you in the kitchen...."
rule..
No one has been able to provide the printed proof yet though...
AWWWWWW,
MOST of the time I appreciate the comments regardless.
They help me make a better judgment about whether opening the thread is worthwhile to me, or not.
Many are humorous.
Many are informative.
Many are clever.
They also add robustness to the understanding of fellow FREEPERS and their inclinations, preferences, perspectives, biases. And I love getting to know fellow FREEPERS better.
There's a limit to what's possible given the number of characters allowed in a title. So it's not as though everyone can go hogwild.
I PARTICULARLY APPRECIATE ANY QUALIFYING OR CLUE-IN about the article that's an annotation or explanation or elaboration of what is often a cryptic, mystifying title.
But the ones just for fun are fine for me, too.
Blessings,
;)
My ex-girlfriend just awarded you with the:
Did you forget to put the toilet seat down?! I sure didn't forget to put the seat down!
Award.
Congrats.
I disagree. Some of the comments make FR look cheap.
But, but, but, Ttthat's the only way I can identify the real thread from the duplicates, sir!
FR at it's worst is still a 1000% better than DU!!
(Should I have put that in parentheses?) [runs]

by a Packer fan, no less....
I like to think of
TRUE CONSERVATIVES
as being DOWN HOME sorts of folks who are used to kibbitzing over the back fence, or on the front porch or down at the park or some such . . . in whatever clothes they happen to be wearing and not putting on aires.
I like to think that their quality is in their hearts and their characters rather than in spit and polish and ostentaciousness.
I figure that any fool even pretending to be smart can look beneath surface chaff and sense character and substance underneath.
It's the traitorous liberal idiots who try to emphasize form over substance; whitewash over evil; evil labeled good and the like.
Well, they can have the pseudo-intellectualism; the university snobism; the pretense over reality; traitorousness over authentic patriotism; wisdom and discernment over fancy words and pristine diction, grammar and pretend logic.
Give me a hay seed with some horse sense and a heart for God, country and family over phoney, hollow spit and polish any time.
People of substance are used to looking beneath the surface noise.
FREEPERS are a diverse lot. And we are virtually all loveable in our own ways because our hearts are authentically for God, family and country.
Folks who want to put too much stock in surface noise and labels belong at those other unmentionable traitorous sites.
THE ESTABLISHMENT is not our primary turf.
Our primary turf is hearth and home and church.
Our primary communication is authenticity and heartfelt values lived out vs polish and snobish intellectualism
Grrrrrrrrrrr!
this is probably my pet peeve, although I usually just skip threads that are that obtuse. Like: "Explosion on Main Street!" without a clue of what town, city or even state in post #1 or in the keywords.
It takes a serious amount of cluelessness to not see the problem.
OK, so I probably don't care, and can move on to the next thread, but just maybe it might be of a lot wider interest than just the immediate town: e.g. "Leaking Radioactive Waste Train, on Fire, Just went through Town!"
Naming a town "Jackson" without listing the state is pretty irritating. There must be dozens of Jacksons in this country.
That, Sir, is a redundant phrase.
