June 1957 – Residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma are enjoying their city’s anniversary, called “Tulsarama!” Most every city around the country enjoys parties; it’s a big tradition throughout the United States.

Tulsa representatives decided they needed something unique and different in order to compete with Oklahoma City. They decided to entomb an automobile in a time capsule, using a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere as the car of choice.

Wow, that's something.

But the real dream is finding a Duezie in a barn. ;-)

Thanks for posting my RIDE. This picture was taken at a Scottsdale Auto show. The center light is there to make it street legal in Arizona. As Barrett-Jackson pros would call it- a Retro-Mod. Mosty original, some updating to be legal.

Sweet ride! How long have you had it? How long did it take you to fix it up?

Welcome to Free Republic!

Why didn't they bury a '57 Chevy? Now that was a classic.

People actually wanted them.

I purchased it sight unseen off the internet in 2003.
It took a fellow in the state of Washington almost four years to complete from a rusty bucket of bolts.
It was stored in a barn for several years.
The original color was like the one buried in Tulsa.
I’m hoping to be there with our car for the unearthing.

Did you form a ping list? If so, put me on it...if not, you want me to?

I’m so excited about this! A guy that lives down the street from me has an old restored Corsair...he’s on the team or whatever that’s digging it up. He stops by and talks to us whenever he sees us in the shop, working on the Beetle. He told me the vault looks to be in great condition.

I don't have ping lists but if you want to start one then please do. Car threads are always popular. :-)

Ok...I’ll take care of it then.

I’ll attend when they actually dig it up if I can and take pictures. Otherwise they’re going to have an “unveiling” and you have to buy tickets for that and I’m not going to do that.

Buried Car Ping!

Only a couple of days till they dig up the car! It's all over the news here and they've blocked off parts of downtown to traffic.

Nonetheless, the boys and I are going to try to get down there and look. I'll post pictures.

I threw together a ping list of folks from this thread that I thought might be interested in updates. If you don't want me to ping you any more, please forgive me and let me know via freepmail...I'll take you right off.

Might want to bring a metal detector in case there are some particles of steel mixed in with the layer of rust.

Heh heh heh!!!

You know, I just moved to Oklahoma 10 years ago, but I really love this state. I am just all swept up in the excitement of this buried car business!

Local news station says there is several feet of water in the concrete vault holding the car. They have taken the lid off the vault and discovered the water.

Thanks for the ping. I actually scheduled vacation time to be in Tulsa on Friday. I have half a mind to be there at the unveiling.

But I’m sure there will be huge crowds with parking problems.

My step-father has lived in Tulsa since the 40’s. I asked him if he had put in a guess as to the population of Tulsa in 2007. He said no.

Too bad. But someone (or their heirs) will win.

Win what, we just don’t know. My guess is that it will have just minor surface rust.
