Why Saint Patrick's Day?

Saint Patrick's Day has come to be associated with everything Irish: anything green and gold, shamrocks and luck. Most importantly, to those who celebrate its intended meaning, St. Patrick's Day is a traditional day for spiritual renewal and offering prayers for missionaries worldwide.

So, why is it celebrated on March 17th? One theory is that that is the day that St. Patrick died. Since the holiday began in Ireland, it is believed that as the Irish spread out around the world, they took with them their history and celebrations. The biggest observance of all is, of course, in Ireland. With the exception of restaurants and pubs, almost all businesses close on March 17th. Being a religious holiday as well, many Irish attend mass, where March 17th is the traditional day for offering prayers for missionaries worldwide before the serious celebrating begins.

In American cities with a large Irish population, St. Patrick's Day is a very big deal. Big cities and small towns alike celebrate with parades, "wearing of the green," music and songs, Irish food and drink, and activities for kids such as crafts, coloring and games. Some communities even go so far as to dye rivers or streams green!

that is what makes cats fun. Some other endearing traits:

1) Jumping on your face in middle of night. So, why do you think God gave you TWO eyes?

2) While asleep they are playing assault the big rat (your toes), they are chewing on your big toe & using their back feet to kick the rest of the foot(all cat people KNOW this scenario)

3) need to Eat at 4 AM & will walk on you & meow until the slave (you gets up and opens a FRESH can of whatever). Nevermind the BIG full dish of dry food that is there.

4)Attack the cat in reflection.. the reflection is the water bowl.. and now the water bowl is empty & all over the floor.

5) Vet Bills.. so, you dont have money to eat this month? too bad.

6) Helping you at computer.. yes, walking all over the keyboard & hitting interactive keys that make all your work disappear... FOREVER...

7) Miss the liter box game.. whopps.. wrong room? Ha, isn't this game fun?

8)etc

Happy St.Patty's Day!

Corned Beef and Cabbage

Corned beef is brisket, topside or silverside which has been pickled in brine. It is especially popular around Dublin. It is best to soak a joint overnight to remove excess salt.

5 lb/ 2 kg joint of corned beef
1 large cabbage
bay leaf
2 large onions
cold water to cover
2 large carrots
ground black pepper
4 potatoes

(serves four to six)

Quarter the cabbage and put aside. Peel and slice the other vegetables. Cover the meat with the water and bring to the boil. Skim the surface, add the vegetables (except the cabbage), the bay leaf and the pepper and simmer gently for 20 minutes. Add the cabbage and cook for a further 30 minutes. Serve the meat surrounded by the vegetables with additional mashed potatoes.

IRISH HUMOR

Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking place. Looking up to heaven he said,"Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of me life and give up Irish Whiskey"

Miraculously, a parking place appeared.

Paddy looked up again and said, "Never mind, I found one."

Father Murphy walks into a pub in Donegal, and says to the first man he meets, "Do you want to go to heaven?"
The man said, "I do Father."

The priest said, "Then stand over there against the wall."
Then the priest asked the second man, "Do you want to go to heaven?"

Certainly, Father," was the man's reply. "Then stand over there against the wall," said the priest.

Then Father Murphy walked up to O'Toole and said, "Do you want to go to heaven? O'Toole said, "No, I don't Father.
The priest said, "I don't believe this. You mean to tell me that when you die you don't want to go to heaven?"

O'Toole said, "Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now."

Paddy was in New York He was patiently waiting, and watching the traffic cop on a busy street crossing. The cop stopped the flow of traffic and shouted, "Okay pedestrians".

Then he'd allow the traffic to pass. He'd done this several times, and Paddy still stood on the sidewalk.

After the cop had shouted "Pedestrians" for the tenth time, Paddy went over to him and said, "Is it not about time ye let the Catholics across?"

Gallagher opened the morning newspaper and was dumbfounded to read in the obituary column that he had died. He quickly phoned his best friend Finney.

Did you see the paper?" asked Gallagher. "They say I died!!"

Yes, I saw it!" replied Finney. "Where are ye calling' from?"

An Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for Speeding in Connecticut. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest's breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car.

He says, "Sir, have you been drinking?

Just water," says the priest.

The trooper says, "Then why do I smell wine?"

The priest looks at the bottle and says, "Good Lord! He's done it again!"

Walking into the bar, Mike said to Charlie the bartender, "Pour me a stiff one - just had another fight with the little woman."

Oh yeah?" said Charlie "And how did this one end?"
When it was over," Mike replied, "she came to me on her hands and knees.

Really," said Charles, "now that's a switch! What did she say?"

She said, "Come out from under the bed, you little chicken. "

Flynn staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy, Paddy. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Mary.

He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the bottom step. As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful.

Managing not to yell, Flynn sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt cheeks were cut an bleeding. He managed to quietly find a full box of Band-Aids and began putting a Band-Aid as best he could on each place he saw blood.

He then hid the now almost empty Band-Aid box and shuffled and stumbled his way to bed.

In the morning, Flynn woke up with searing pain in both his head and butt and Mary staring at him from across the room.

She said, "You were drunk again last night weren't you?"

Flynn said, "Why you say such a mean thing?"

Well," Mary said, "it could be the open front door, it could be the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly.....it's all those Band-Aids stuck on the hall mirror."

Dolly,

Thanks for your well wishes. Actually, my problem now isn't a cold but allergies. I always have allergy problems in March. They leave me tired mostly, but sometimes I get chest pains because my lungs are irritated.

I visited some friends last Sunday and saw their big turtle lay eggs. They helped me work on my friend's sick gecko. I also bought a new ball python from them. Here are the latest pictures.

Dolly,

When you do the evening ping, you might want to let people know about this recall of pet food. I haven't read the whole story, but apparently the food is bad and has killed some pets.

I love your haircut. It is really good for you. I bet it has cut your prep time in half. Long hair takes forever sometimes to fix.

Hello Ma'am. Well, my problem was that I never too much time on my hair & so prep time was never long(nor will it be in future.).. when I was a teenager, I took hours to get ready with makeup, clothes & hair.. now it is a funny joke. Leaving in 5 minutes & NOT even started to get ready.

Thank you Jem..Did your son & his fellow patriots in the MidEast follow the GOE today?
