Woman hospitalized from house cat attack

A house cat attacked its owner, sending her to the hospital by ambulance with more than 20 bite wounds.

The cat, a black and white domestic male, went on the rampage Wednesday when a neighbor showed up at the door with a different cat, mistakenly thinking it belonged to the woman.

"She went to the door, and her cat went berserk," Jeff Nevins, assistant fire chief for Wood River Fire and Rescue, told the Idaho Mountain Express.

The woman in her 60s was taken to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center with what Nevins described as "pretty serious puncture wounds." Neither the hospital nor the fire department would provide any details to The Associated Press on Saturday, or say whether she has been released.

"I think the owner said she was going to take it to the shelter because that's not the first time she's been attacked," Nevins said.

I have a cat with STRONG jaws and I have to be careful when he is in a playful mood - it is like meeting a pair of vice grips festooned with needles.

I worked in a animal shelter many years ago. We were getting ready to neuter a cat and thought it was tranquilized enough. My sister in law bent over to check it and the darn cat jumped up and bit into her cheek. It was hanging on her face and we couldn't get it loose. The vet had to come in and actually put it down . We had blood all over and my sister in law lost some muscle control in her face . I would rather be bit (& have been many times) by a dog. When a cat seriously bites its bad.

Have you ever tried to rub a cat on its head, and see if it will stick to the wall?

[You have an intersting screen name too ... this one's 4U ... a cat w/out armor]

My Uncle had a cat with a nasty disposition. I used to call it Demon Spawn.

Oh my gosh, LOL. There's one that's looks like a flapper from the roaring 20's and another with a butterfly on his face.

I'm so worried for their dignity!

Thanks for finding the link. I'm going to pass it on.

When I was stationed near Baltimore in 1966 there was a case of two men breaking into a woman's house and attempting to assault her. They did not count on her Siamese cat protecting her. The cat put both men in the hospital.
