Woman hospitalized from house cat attack

A house cat attacked its owner, sending her to the hospital by ambulance with more than 20 bite wounds.

The cat, a black and white domestic male, went on the rampage Wednesday when a neighbor showed up at the door with a different cat, mistakenly thinking it belonged to the woman.

"She went to the door, and her cat went berserk," Jeff Nevins, assistant fire chief for Wood River Fire and Rescue, told the Idaho Mountain Express.

The woman in her 60s was taken to St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center with what Nevins described as "pretty serious puncture wounds." Neither the hospital nor the fire department would provide any details to The Associated Press on Saturday, or say whether she has been released.

"I think the owner said she was going to take it to the shelter because that's not the first time she's been attacked," Nevins said.

I have seen some vicious dog attacks, but I have never read of a cat attack that was this bad.

Here's an old story about a whole Canadian family that had to run away from a crazy cat attack!! I searched on "Siamese with an attitude problem" (what the cop said that night, last line in story) and the story came right up:

Siamese cat goes on rampage
May 14, 2002

A Canadian family had to flee for safety after their pet Siamese cat went on a rampage, tearing at clothes and skin and driving them out of the house, police said.

The shaken group called police in the eastern port city of Dartmouth after taking refuge on their lawn on Sunday evening.

"Earlier in the afternoon, the cat had attacked the babysitter," police Sergeant Don Spicer said. "The residents went to check on the cat and, essentially, the cat went crazy on them as well.

"It attacked the father and ripped his pants as well as the flesh underneath," Spicer said.

It took police officers, armed with a blanket and a clothes hamper, 20 minutes to corner the cat. Spicer said Cocoa the cat was eventually secured in a pet carrier and handed over to the family who took it to the veterinarian.

It was not yet known what caused the cat's frenzy.

"We've been called to deal with a snake or various animals for one reason for another. But this is the first time that I can recall an actual cat going berserk," Spicer said.

Another police officer said Cocoa was "a Siamese cat with an attitude problem."

I know that not all cat owners get rabies vacs for their pets, some people seem to think cats don't need them, or that they aren't as important as dog vacs. I sure hope the vet checks for that, plus any other central nervous system disease...

I used to live near an older lady who had a cat like that. People would refuse to visit unless she had it locked up somewhere! There was something seriously wrong with that cat too; it was crazy even as a kitten.

I have known some folks who have had "Crackhead Kitties", but nothing like this.

Personally, I blame hip-hop.

Had a crazy cat once. She would lie in wait until someone passed by & then she would pounce. Especially bad if you got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. She was insane. And this was in pre-hip hop days.

Well, these things only escalate once cats start listening to Tupac and and 50 Cent.

Glad MY little darling would never do that. Although, if she doesn't want to be picked up or if she's really scared, I know I best better not F with her. Actually, if she doesn't want to be picked up and I do it anyway, she usually just lays there and looks peeved. It was just one time I was trying to get her out of the garage and she didn't want to go that she went off a little bit.

LOL. Probably true. I forbid hip hop in all forms. It makes ME crazy.

Maybe it was all that Zeppelin I used to listen to.

I saw a video once, I think on When Animals Go Bad or something that showed a cat go off on an animal control officer. It climbed up his leg and dug in. This was a big strong guy and he was screaming in agony, and he couldn't get it off without ripping his flesh even worse.

Cats are interesting animals. I seriously doubt I could take my cat without weapons. Funny how such a soft sweet little bundle of fur can turn into a ball of teeth and claws in the blink of an eye.

I kind of like that... it's more compatible with the human ethos than a rabbit, say, that can die of fear if a cat is in the general area.

On a recent thread about a tiger that killed a child (in China?) a freeper noted that if house cats were that size, well..... And isn't that the truth! When you think about it if our pet cats were tiger sized they'd be maiming and killing us all the time. My cat is very tame but if I turn him over and touch his belly sometimes he suddenly grabs my hand with his claws and half bites. That would be horrible if he were tiger sized 400-700 lbs. (according to Wikipedia). I thought that was a very thought provoking idea. Size matters here.

By the way "Four fried chickens and a coke" LOL! LOL! and LOL!
