ATKINSON, N.H. — Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55.

Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

Delp apparently was alone at the time, Baldwin said.

That's what I heard.

You always knew when summertime was coming around.
The classic rock stations would start playing Long Time, Eruption, and Frankenstein in heavy rotation.

I would venture to say most people can remember what they were doing the first time they heard the first Boston or Van Halen song on the radio.

One of the news channels said it was carbon monoxide poisoning (I have to keep reminding myself that it's still winter in some parts of the country and people are still using heaters).

If this turns out to be the case, might make people think about getting detectors. They said carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of accidently poisonings which is something I did not know.

They sold gazillions of records; well-produced. I got in to
see them at the Boston Garden for free in '78 (at 16) because my older brother knew Sib Hashian. One of the Boston guys--
may have been Delp--started a record store in Danvers awhile back.

A caller to WROR in Boston said she had been planning to see Brad's band BeatleJuice tonight at Johnny D's in Somerville.
She heard the news and called the club; they had just heard
the news themselves. WHDH-TV in Boston said he was engaged
to be married in the summer and his fiancee found him and
called police/medical. I think they said he had some grown
children from before.

Boston Herald:

“Brad was a legendary rock ’n’ roll singer,” said car mogul Ernie Boch Jr., who plays alongside Delp’s former band members Sib Hashian and Barry Goudreau in the group Ernie and the Automatics. “He was fantastic, one of the greatest rock singers ever.”

According to police, Delp was alone when he died, and although there was no sign of foul play, his death remains under investigation.

“I can’t believe that he’s actually gone,” said Paul Gary, manager of the heavy-metal group Godsmack, who played alongside Delp at concert reunions in the group Extreme. “He’s one of the guys that was very kind to me when I first started. I was so proud to be playing with him because I grew up on his music.”

Delp met Tom Scholz and formed the rock band Boston in 1975, releasing the band’s self-titled album in 1976. The album earned gold record sales status in only two months and was one of the fastest-selling debut albums for any American group.

Delp had most recently performed as frontman for Beatlejuice, a Beatles tribute band that was scheduled to play last night and tonight at Johnny D’s in Somerville.

Seen this?

Not until you pinged me. I really don't like it when people just a few years older than me die for no apparent reason.

Sad.

Thats true. I was poisoned at my sisters house less than a month ago when their gas heater had a problem. Symptoms are almost identical to the flu. Headaches, puking and the runs. Had to go to the ER to suck oxygen for a couple of hours. If you have a gas heater, get a CO2 alarm!

Yeah - it's not just who died, but how they died and the age that they died.

I'm fairly close to his age, and when I heard a report say it was carbon monoxide, I kid you not, last night about 11pm or so, I went around the house checking all of our detectors. We may not be running heaters (well the hot water heater), or anything else, but it made me twinge a bit.

This news leaves me rocking and reeling.

As does the discovery that "rocking and reeling" isn't part of "More Than a Feeling."

Do these guys all have to die before we get their lyrics right?
