But the genius award undoubtedly goes to Lester Thurow, economist and well-known author, who, as late as 1989, wrote, Can economic command significantly ... accelerate the growth process? The remarkable performance of the Soviet Union suggests that it can. Today it is a country whose economic achievements bear comparison with those of the United States.
TOPICS: Humor; Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: lesterthurow; liberals
I was wondering what happened to "Third Way" economist, Lester Thurow, so I Googled him and found this FUnnie quote by him in 1989. And since I posted this quote, feel free to post your own FUnnie liberal quotes.

" Partly, the Russian system succeeds because, in contrast with the Western industrial economies, it makes full use of its manpower."
The only thing that made the Soviet system make full use of it manpower was Hitler and his armies at the gates.
Have the libraries all purged the nonfiction section of the books written in the 50's and 60's about the USSR, now that we can see who is wrong and who is right?

The advantage the liberal has is that they don't look back in self criticism.
Nuclear deterrence didn't work?
Those MIGs in Korea weren't flown by Russians?
Bombing Libya and pressuring them will bring nothing?
SDI can never work
Supply side economics does not work?
North Korea is not building a nuke?
After Vietnam fell the Russians didn't build navy bases there and the domino theory was proven wrong, right?
The benefit the liberal has is that no matter how often they are proven wrong, no matter how often they flip and flop on positions, it never deters them.
What ever happened with acid rain?
What happened with the coming ice age?
What's happening with all those cuddly cute baby seals?

"I found more goods in the shops, more food in the markets, more cars on the street - more of everything, except, for some reason, caviar.... those in the United States who think the Soviet Union is on the verge of economic and social collapse, ready with one small push to go over the brink are wishful thinkers who are only kidding themselves. - Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., 1982.
"The Soviet Union is not now, nor will it be during the next decade, in the throes of a true systematic crisis, for it boasts enormous unused reserves of political and social stability that suffice to endure the deepest difficulties." -- Seweryn Bialer, Professor of Political Science, Columbia University, Foreign Affairs Magazine, 1982/3.

To be fair; China makes full use of it's human resources. Not a single part goes to waste.

Exactly. Yet some of our politicians have tried to sell our government to them.
