GASTONIA, N.C. -- Jessica's aunt, Susan Lunsford, was actually on her way home when a friend called to tell her about Wednesday's verdict. She told Eyewitness News she pulled over and listened to it over the phone. Lunsford could barely contain her emotions as she watched news coverage of the trial in Florida from her living room in Gastonia. She says, "it wasn't that I doubted it; it was just I needed to hear it. I needed to hear it. "
Nine year-old Jessica Lunsford was kidnapped from her bedroom of her Central Florida home in February 2005. John Couey then raped the young girl and buried her alive. Jurors only deliberated 4 hours before returning the guilty verdict against Couey.
But the decision has given Jessica's father, Mark Lunsford, little comfort. When reporters asked him to describe his emotions he told them, "he aint dead yet".
Yet for lundford's sister, Susan, there is relief. She believes, "there will never be any closure. But there will be relief in knowing that this one is complete." More importantly, she hopes today's verdict will keep other children from becoming a victim the way Jessica did. She hopes, "somehow some of these sexual predators have watched this. And they're going see what happens to him. And they're going to really think about this before they ever touch another child. "
Other family members including Jessica's mom and dad are still in Florida. They'll stay there through the sentencing hearing next Tuesday.

A tearful Amen ...
Prayers for the family. This is another case, such as the Carr brothers, where the killer is subhuman. I hope he gets the electric chair.
