Scottish star Gerard Butler, lead actor in the highly anticipated film opening March 9, has revealed to Esquire Magazine that U.S. troops in Iraq are not heroic. Here's the quote from the magazine, Mar/April 2007 issue:
Esquire: "In the movie, a small band of proto-democratic freedom fighters take on a Middle Eastern enemy -- did you discuss parallels with contemporary world politics?"
Gerard Butler: "300 was sold to me one way: The Spartans are the U.S. But I think if you look at it with half a brain, then you see that the situation is absolutely reversed. I've really got to be careful what I say here. [Director] Zach [Snyder] and I never tried to compare it to politics, because, to be honest, that doesn't work for me. I mean [the Iraq war] is such a *beep* It is a mess. Who are the heroes there? There are no heroes. It's all just dirty."
IMO, this bozo is exactly like Kerry, exactly Kerry hates our troops, too. I guess Butler doesn't care for democracy, freedom, or any of the innocent Iraqis we liberated from Saddam's sick regime. Butler is slamming our troops, the coalition troops, the Iraqi innocents, the Iraqi police and their own military who are fighting alongside us to secure their country.
I'm boycotting the movie 300. I just cannot support a half-wit like this any longer.
I posted:

I meant:
This bozo is exactly like Kerry, since Kerry hates our troops too.
Sorry, I'm so sngry right now my brain's overloaded my middleaged fingers as I type.
Way to help promote your own movie! /s
It's your money so stay home if you want, but the Germans walked out on this movie because they thought it was pro American propaganda.
Anything that so upsets a European, I'm not going to miss.
and then there is the little bit about my tagline.....
Uh....their leader is KING Leonidas. Sparta was in no way a democracy, proto or otherwise.
Anymore, I look for reasons not to go to the movies, as most are such tripe. Thanks for posting. If I were a theater owner I think I'd sue the bastard.
Have you read the novel "Gates of Fire"? Excellent account of the battle and Sparta in general.
LOL. Yeah that would have been real news to the Helots.
But to be perfectly honest about it my tagline is a reference to the sentiment in more contemporary terms.
I ll look up the book thought. Thanks.
Tcostell...I know what you're saying. But it's not the movie that is the problem. It's BUTLER himself. I can't support a film of his when he's DISSED my beloved troops.
And I won't, movie be damned. By the way, the reason the Berlin PRESS dissed his movie was that it was an American-made film. The Euro press were the ones who dissed it in the first press-only screening. The second screening was nothing but regular citizens, who applauded it.
I'm back to boycotting libnuts who think we should see their films while they slam what's near and dear to us.
I hope it tanks. And he's nothing but a socialist who hates America.

I think those that pay attention to an "actor" will miss out on a great story. It's a very important book to Marines and compares well to their ethos.
Well OK then. If British actor Whatshisname says so...
Thanks for posting this, I will add this movie to my never see list.
"Uh....their leader is KING Leonidas. Sparta was in no way a democracy, proto or otherwise."
I agree. They were no better than the Persians invading them. The Spartans had slaves and were in no way a democracy. I was only quoting Esquire magazine's line. Don't blame the messenger.
It is a great story, nevertheless, but I won't be seeing the movie because I cannot stand the lead actor's political diss of our troops. It's that simple.
Would you please change the title of your post to "Star" instead of "Start"? When I saw it I thought the movie itself was dissing our troops. Thanks.
They go through this cycle, and once they've decided they don't need us, they'll end up in a big nasty war killing each other. This time we should not help them end it ~ just let it grind on until they finally resolve who's on top, who's on bottom, you know, all the stuff they want to happen in Iraq with a touch of genocidal fury.
Maybe we could ship our own leftwingers over there as the Bill Clinton Brigade. They could help.
But what I would do is contact him and let him know you're off his list. Actors aren't like real people. They are driven by their vanity and their desire to be loved and adored by everyone. If he knows that you'll never see another of his movies and will talk bad about him every chance you get, it will effect him. It might even effect him enough to shut that big hole in his empty head next time. Because even if he secretly tells people he doesn't respect you, he still wants you to love him.
If you're going to hit, hit em hard and right where it hurts. In the case of actors, they got into that business knowing they might be broke all their lives. So it's their ego that hurts them more than their wallet ever will.
And don't tell him that you think he's stupid. He is... so obviously he doesn't care about that. If it were me I'd say something like "I used to think you were a handsome man but since you said what you did you look different to me. You look older and more bitter. You look angrier, and frankly ... far less attractive."
You know... right in the ego.....and you never know....a little psyops can go a long way.
Well that's one movie I'll never see. Damn it seemed like a good one too.
But, more important is Zach Snyder who appears to be on OUR side. The h*ll with Butler--he's a mannequin anyway.
