I want to hear your comments about the American Idol contestant who sang "Not Ready to Make Nice" by the dixie chicks and was axed.
I think she chose that song because she wanted to make a statement about the war and thought it would have a wide appeal which would translate into audience votes, however it backfired.
I also believe that the American public is sick and tired of all of the negativism surrounding the War on Terror and largely supports it, that's why she lost votes.
On flip side of the argument, if a contestant sang a song similar to Toby Keith's "American Soldier", how would that song be received?
I believe there was a Marine who managed to make it through a few rounds a couple of years ago. Does anyone know if he sang any patriotic songs and if so how were they received?

She picked a bad song.... and sang it worse. And she should have been voted out the week before.
She's not very good.

I think her song choice was damaging, but what was worse was her lack of talent.

I will never understand the popularity of this show, sadly.

I was watching it with my wife and thought immediately it was a bad song choice. You do not want to be divisive in this sort of thing.

I thought she was horrible. And the fact that she chose a dixie chicks song just added to the train wreck. I suppose others in the tv audience must have felt the same since she was sent packing.

No matter if it was a reflection on her beliefs or not, it is strategically stupid to choose a song that you know will turn off some of your fans.
.. and she wasn't that great of a singer so she may have been booted even if she sang something else..

She was voted off because she sucked big time, not because of political backlash.

You must be referring to Josh Gracin, one of the finalists a few years ago. I don't know what he sang (I never watch the show), but I did meet him once when he sang the national anthem at a NASCAR event.

Don't watch the show...but if i did, i'd
]like to think i would vote on how well
she sang it....From what i hear, the
song choice wasn't what got her kicked off.

Poor song choice, lousy singer, and an even worse attitude. I knew she was definitely leaving, and I was quite glad to see her go.

Did anyone notice Kelly Pickler's new boobs? She's done a 180 from being a sweet, naive, long haired country girl to a Hollywood dumb-blond bimbo.

I disagree. If she had picked it to make a statement, AI wouldn't have allowed the performance to take place.

Did you catch the end of the results show? As the final credits were rolling, the contestant that was singing her swan song commented on how she shouldn't have tried to sing scat because Americans hate jazz. I thought, yep, that is precisely why you are leaving, nevermind your inability to actually sing scat. :P
To: fightin kentuckian
It wasn't about the song so much as the singing. The song is obnoxious, but this is a singing contest and nothing more.

Hmmm...I never thought of that. I thought it was a poor choice in songs and she is a poor singer as well.

As soon as she started singing that song, I looked over at my wife and said, "she's gone". Although she didn't sing it all that well, she was much better than that chick who gets the "pretty pass" every week.
