I don't have anything nice to say about Vista. I've even pointed out it's roll out was an abject failure and embarrassment for MS.

But Mac users are just so damned tweakable, it's hard to resist the fun!

I don't think most of them know a Mac is only a computer. It's not like it was something cool. It's not like it was a Trapper Keeper Ultra Keeper Futura S2000. A Mac is essentially a PC that can run OS X. And that's about it.

Try OS X for 2 months and report back.

You aren't allowed to install it on a PC... Tell Jobs to make it compatible and and when he does let me know, then I might think about trying it. Till then I'm more than happy with Vista and couldn't care less about OSX.(BTW why do people with OSX need to run Windows anyhow with parallels IF OSX is so good?)

This guy really hates Macs, and needs to do more research.

Ummm.. I have been reading Ed's articles for a LONG time, he bashes EVERYONE... Microsoft included!
He isn't a fanboy of anyone(Maybe Linux if anything), I think he is giving Apple sound advise.

The fact that he's talking about Apple means that the ads have had the desired effect.

Why would *anyone* who had ever been associated with either company even *think* about selling OS X for PC?

A Mac IS a PC... Once you people start to understand and grasp that reality.... we can move forward.

Then you haven't read your history either. Apple's past try at licensing the OS was a HUGE failure. They only started on the road to their current financial success and their huge marketshare increases after they stopped the licensing.

Try this: Hit yourself in the head with a hammer. Did it feel good? No? Well, try again and maybe it'll feel good the next time. You say you're not going to do it again because it hurt? What are you, a quitter?

Michael Jordan was cut from his High School Basketball team... maybe he should have quit... ;)

It apparently is when Microsoft is in such a rush to copy Apple. There's an old adage in the computer industry:

Microsoft can't afford for Apple to go under because that means they'll lose their R&D department.

That was because he was too short. He grew over the summer and re-joined the team to be its star.

Apple

Acer

.44% increase for Mac compared to 3% increase for Tiny little Acer... who gained more? and who is getting more buzz?

I think Apple's OS has also grown since they tried their last attempt... And they have also learned some lessons.

You need to think relative. That's about a 25% increase for Apple and a 73% increase for Acer. Good for Acer. However, Acer gets lost in a crowd of Windows PC manufacturers that have seen nowhere near that kind of growth. Like your guy says:

Between 2005 and 2006, HP increased its marketshare 2.5%, or five times what Apple did

HP's marketshare actually grew by 14%. Apple grew by 25%.

And that's worldwide. Apple's US marketshare surged in 2006 by 32% to get it 6.1% of the market. Apple is concentrating on the US market, where it matters most.

Yes they have: Keep tight control so you can ensure quality and market image across the board.

They would still have control over their drivers... just like MS does... WHQL anyone?

But NOT in the "desktop" market... Where it matters "most"

Uhh we seem to be stagnant... ;)

Um, Apple has tried it twice. If you include NeXT's efforts, three times.

Each time they got screwed and almost died.

I wouldn't try again either.
