Microsoft CEO: Vista sales expectations too high
Businessweek Online ^ | 02/15/2007

Microsoft Corp. Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said Thursday that Wall Street's current expectations for revenue from its newest operating system may be too "optimistic."

"I'm really excited about how enthusiastic people are about Vista, but I think some of the revenue forecasts for Vista in 2008 are overly aggressive," Ballmer said in a meeting for financial analysts. "(Vista) is primarily a chance to sustain what (Windows) revenue we have -- not every release is a revenue growing opportunity.". . .

Ballmer also responded to a question about a series of commercials made by smaller computer maker Apple Inc.. . .

"I'll give Apple credit for what it's done," Ballmer said. It's not like they've really grown a lot of market share (through the commercials). Remember, when you're the little tiny niche guy who owns about 2 percent of the worldwide (computer) market, you can be cute one time and it helps you grow."

What part of Coon2000's comment, "Office on OS X blows away the windows version," do you fail to understand?

I was talking about people buying parallels to run windows... you have to buy parallels($80) then you have to buy Windows($$$?)depending on version

Well, you know, taking offense at every little joke is pretty cultish. Scientolgists do it. Linux users do it. Global Warming(TM) believers do it. etc. etc. and ever and ever. Amen.

If it walks like a cult and quacks like a cult, am I to assume it's a ham sandwich?

In a free society everything can be made fun of. Except Aqua Teen Hunger Force. That's too serious to make light of.

But cultish behavior, without being able to make fun of that all discourse stops.

They did not ask to be members of the Ping list to be insulted about their choice of computers.

It might surpise you to know that PC owners feel the same way (assuming I have interpreted your confusing sentence the way you intended). I have no idea how you justify your existence in your own mind, but to me you and golden eagle are the same bird.

JS1138, Have I insulted YOU? Have I said that you have a "little ego"? Have I claimed you are "gay" because of your choice of computer? Have I insulted you about your choice of computer? Have I even so much as posted a "Get a Mac" comment in a Windows or PC thread? I don't think so. I have criticized the OPERATING SYSTEM... not the users.

From what I have seen, most Mac users who do comment in PC or Windows threads do not attack the users either. That seems to be a tool of the people who attack Mac users. At most, they make a recommendation on how to end the problems the Windows users are having.

And what is so confusing about that sentence? "They (referring to the 240 members of the FreeRepublic Mac Ping list) did not ask to be members of the Ping list to be insulted about their choices of computers." Looks exceedingly clear to me.

I have no idea how you justify your existence in your own mind. . .

And finally, we have another ad hominem attack, implying that my existence is somehow offensive.

There is making fun and there is insulting behavior. You go way over the line. You attack people with insults. That is not "making fun." I will tell you that many people are offended by your behavior because you are directing it toward them. They are not laughing.

You still didn't read Coon2000's comments. He said the ONLY reason he was using it was because Quickbooks Mac was not meeting his needs yet... he already had WindowsXP. He just needed to buy Parallels. He did not need your critique of what he would have to buy to do what he was already doing... and you also said he would have to buy "Office"... but he already told you that the Mac version of Office "blows" away the Windows version. He had already told you that the problems of Windows were not worth the effort anymore. He had made his decision.

Well you are still a boring old fart. Who gives a hoot what you think of Windows? You obsess over it. It isn't healthy and it isn't very interesting.

Maybe an update once a month, or even better, once a quarter, but more than once a week? Get a life.

I have recently acquired several Apple products and actually like them, but you piss me off so much with your superior attitude that I would walk over broken glass before buying a Mac.

I've used MS operating systems since 1982. I neither love nor hate them. I learn how to make them work; I learn how to avoid malware, and I generally have a good time. I support a couple of corporate networks and have never been hacked. I'm not even particularly great at what I do. I just browse the internet for potential problems and take preventive action when needed. In the last year that's hardly been necessary, above and beyond installing updates.

I find your rants against Microsoft to be hysterical and unfounded.

If you don't like them DON'T READ THEM. Go on to the next topic.

You seem to have been interested enough in this thread to have reached reply 86. Why are you wasting your time???

As far as I an concerned, your opinion is outvoted by the 240 other Freepers who have ASKED to be included on the Mac Ping List. You are in the minority on Mac threads who seem offended by the mere existence of Mac threads. I regularly get thanks from members of the Mac Ping list for either posting them or merely just pinging members to ones posted by others.

You obsess over it.

I obsess over it? Not hardly. I got Windows out of my personal life years ago. I work with Windows daily, trying to make my clients' involvement with Windows palatable for them.

It strikes me that you are the one who "doth protesteth too much"...

I find your rants against Microsoft to be hysterical and unfounded.

Please find one of "my rants against Microsoft" and link to it. Keep in mind, it has to have been written by ME... and if they are "unfounded" then by all means refute them! That's what a discussion forum is all about. Just don't do it by calling your opponent a "boring old fart"; that is not going to win you any debate points.

It's actually just a "capsule" with "bend modifier" applied to it with the same "hair/grass texture" that is on the ground.... ;)
