Duncan Who ?

I used to think Free Republic was a site with mostly rational people. I can't understand why so many of you waste your time with Duncan Hunter fantasies. Really folks hallucinogenic drugs are illegal and bad for you too. Stop taking them !!! No one outside of the Hunter family and this website thinks he has the remotest chance of being elected President. The Ronald Reagan comparisons are idiotic. Reagan had been a two term Governor of the largest state in the nation. He had been a national household name for over 40 years when he ran in 1980. God only made one Ronald Reagan. Duncan Hunter, although he is a solid Congressman, is no Ronald Reagan. I'm a conservative and I would love to have a viable conservative to work for this election cycle. But we don't have one. McCain is a no go for me. I loathe the treacherous man and believe he is non-compos mentis (loony). That leaves Mitt and Rudy. Newt's entry would hopefully pull the other two to the right (which would be great), and he might even win the nomination (which would probably be bad as I don't think he would win the general election).

That would leave us with Hildebeast or even worse B. Hussein Obama. Therefore, although I'm pro-life, pro-gun, and anti the mainstreaming of homosexuality, I am trying to decide between Rudy and Mitt.

For me the war on islamo nazi psychos is the top issue and Rudy gets my vote on that one.

Issue two is finding a candidate who won't give in to global warming hysteria because that is the lefties preferred path currently to world government and destruction of our economic system. I have to look into Mitt's position on this because Rudy made some rather discouraging comments on this recently (although they were not as bad as originally reported here.)

Next is immigration. We need someone to enforce our laws and get control of the borders. Mitt seems to the right of Rudy on this but both have a way to go. Maybe Tancredo in the race can generate some movement.

Taxes - we need to keep the Bush tax cuts at the very minimum and hopefully get a bolder overhaul of the system.

Judges - we want young Scalias.

Spending restraint - I'm hoping that both, as successful businessmen, will hold the line on spending better than GWB who was a total disappointment in this area.

Let's try to move the viable candidates closer to us on the issues rather than engage in self defeating fantasies of "ideal" candidates who no one has ever heard of and who have never run any larger organization than a Congressman's staff.

Call it fantasy all you want. The REAL FANTASY is thinking that rock ribbed conseravtives, not just social conservatives, are going to fall in line behind such a liberal candidate as Rudy.

Is support for the 2nd Amendment a "social conservative" position, or a constitutional conservative position? Do you think members of the NRA and GOA are going to support Rudy. He is PATHETIC when it comes to the 2nd Amendment.

Is flatly rejecting the socialist agenda called "global warming" a social conservative position, or a THINKING conservative position? Rudy just admonished ALgore for not going after the supposed perps of global warming in his film, An Inconvenient Truth. The fact that Rudy was stupid enough to sit thru that garbage, much less believe it should disqualify him from the GOP nomination, though it could help him get the dem nomination.

Is being opposed to partial birth abortion, better known as infantacide, strictly the domain of social conservatives? Hell frickin NO. Even most dems understand when they see a child being extracted and having its brains vacuumed out is cold blooded murder. Yet, Rudy opposed the Presidents push to enact the ban on this abomination.

Is supporting the Bush tax cuts as social conservative position, or a fairly typical republican position? Well, Rudy was opposed, thinking them irresponsible. I see he changed his tune since, but the man who shows weak knees when it mattered and when the tax cuts passing congress was still up in the air.

Is preferring Pataki for NY Governor over that lying communist Mario Cuomo a social conservative position, or a position that even liberal republicans preferred. Yet, the Mouth that roared, Guiliani, supported the communist.

Is being an adamant foe of Slick Willie a social conservative position, or a position ALL republicans should adhere to? Well, old Rudy got stars in his eyes around Slickster and even has stated that his policies are very similar to the socialist from Arkansas.

I don't even need to go into the other areas where strictly social conservatives would take issue with this liberal NY Mayor.

Does all of this mean that Rudy did not do some good things as mayor of NY. No. Nor does it mean I hate the guy. But waht it does mean is that his ascension WILL RIP THE PARTY APART. The Gop cannot afford to veer any farther left or it will lose the most conservative 1/3 of the party for good.

Sorry I missed the fun here, this was a good one.

I got sidetracked on my way to FR church last night. (That was most interesting too.)

Rudy Giuliani "be everything to everybody" is reminiscent of 1980 when a once-popular John Anderson entered the race for President as a third party candidate. The more Anderson campaigned, the more he pandered. When he came to Silicon Valley, instead of meeting with business people and technology people, he visited the Alviso Slough to talk about pollution. No one was came. Anderson managed to lose most of his potential voters by not taking a stand on anything. By the time the election rolled around, the conservative Ronald Reagan was dominant, and Anderson was nothing but a footnote.

A party that nominates pro-death presidential candidates deserves to die.

"the devolution of this site."

Funny, I thought the SAME thing when I saw how many FReepers were supporting Rudy! Check your principles and your constitutional rights at the door, Ladies and Gentlemen. Follow the arrows on the floor to your assigned cell and submit yourselves for reprogramming. Conservative thinking will not be allowed!

Here is the best description, byt far, of how these candidates look, courtesy of Antoninus:

"And another thing - I personally think Duncan Hunter is a good looking man - he looks like a man's man - not a pretty boy like Edwards or Obama. He looks like a man that would make me feel safe with him as our leader. He looks "solid".

I've heard other women say that as well. If I had to peg each of the candidates based on looks alone, I'd say:

Duncan Hunter - Your dad or your father-in-law.

John McCain - Sporting-goods manager at K-Mart.

Rudy Giuliani - Flower delivery guy.

Mitt Romney - Lead Role in "Superman, the Musical".

With an entire year to go until the primaries, why would any conservative shill for a RINO (like Rudy McRomney)?

The ONLY argument against Hunter is his lack of recognition. His lack of recognition is due to the fact that he's not a darling of the MSM. Believe me...if he wins the GOP nomination, he WILL have name recognition!

Let me ask you Rudy McRomney supporters:

1. Do you seriously believe that Rudy or McCain will continue to be a media darling once they are the opponent to a DEM candidate?

2. Hillary is a worse candidate than John Kerry. Do you seriously believe that only your candidate can beat Hillary?

3. We lost house and senate seats in 2006 because the GOP turned to the left. Do you believe that we need to turn even further to the left to win?
