Duncan Who ?

I used to think Free Republic was a site with mostly rational people. I can't understand why so many of you waste your time with Duncan Hunter fantasies. Really folks hallucinogenic drugs are illegal and bad for you too. Stop taking them !!! No one outside of the Hunter family and this website thinks he has the remotest chance of being elected President. The Ronald Reagan comparisons are idiotic. Reagan had been a two term Governor of the largest state in the nation. He had been a national household name for over 40 years when he ran in 1980. God only made one Ronald Reagan. Duncan Hunter, although he is a solid Congressman, is no Ronald Reagan. I'm a conservative and I would love to have a viable conservative to work for this election cycle. But we don't have one. McCain is a no go for me. I loathe the treacherous man and believe he is non-compos mentis (loony). That leaves Mitt and Rudy. Newt's entry would hopefully pull the other two to the right (which would be great), and he might even win the nomination (which would probably be bad as I don't think he would win the general election).

That would leave us with Hildebeast or even worse B. Hussein Obama. Therefore, although I'm pro-life, pro-gun, and anti the mainstreaming of homosexuality, I am trying to decide between Rudy and Mitt.

For me the war on islamo nazi psychos is the top issue and Rudy gets my vote on that one.

Issue two is finding a candidate who won't give in to global warming hysteria because that is the lefties preferred path currently to world government and destruction of our economic system. I have to look into Mitt's position on this because Rudy made some rather discouraging comments on this recently (although they were not as bad as originally reported here.)

Next is immigration. We need someone to enforce our laws and get control of the borders. Mitt seems to the right of Rudy on this but both have a way to go. Maybe Tancredo in the race can generate some movement.

Taxes - we need to keep the Bush tax cuts at the very minimum and hopefully get a bolder overhaul of the system.

Judges - we want young Scalias.

Spending restraint - I'm hoping that both, as successful businessmen, will hold the line on spending better than GWB who was a total disappointment in this area.

Let's try to move the viable candidates closer to us on the issues rather than engage in self defeating fantasies of "ideal" candidates who no one has ever heard of and who have never run any larger organization than a Congressman's staff.

Yes, well it was mentioned that Governor of Texas really doesn't have all that much power when it resides mainly with the Lt. Governor in 2000. Also, GWB was attacked as not having the foreign policy experience. Just really weak arguments that you are bringing forth. Hunter would more than handle the office effectively and has been a leader in the House with his important chaimanship over the armed services committee and KNOWS the issues and WHAT he is talking about. He doesn't have to ACT conservative and what good is that 'bringing the debate to the right' when you want to nominate candidates that are less and less conservative and resemble Demonrats in many ways. Your type of thinking is going to destroy the GOP because once principles go out for 'name recognition' or 'media stardom' there is no difference and no reason for people who feel strongly about the 2nd Amendment, abortion, the continued erosion of decent values, etc. are not going to have anything to gain by supporting the GOP.

"My focus: defeating Hillary and every other democrat."

Yep, mine, too! Whomever the R candidate is, they get my vote, even if I have to hold my nose to do it.

Yeah, and isn't it funny how they have the audacity to attack us in those terms and yet accuse Hunter supporters of doing nothing but attacking his opponents! There is great enthusiasm for Hunter and more and more as people become aware. They're support mostly comes from 'Rudy is a star and can win'. Pretty lame and weak argument because there is nowhere near a certainty of the 'names' winning and I would like a strong candidate and Hunter would more than run a strong campaign and will show it. They are like Demonrats trying to deflect from what THEY are like.

If pointing out that Rudy's stances more than anything are mostly liberal and on KEY issues is name-calling...

I do not think that criticizing Rudy's stances is name-calling; I have no problem whatsoever with the policy foodfight that happens in every primary. I was referring to the actual name-calling which infuses many anti-Rudy posts.

Oh, they're just thinking up a *real* pithy response.

Sometimes, that takes time, ya know . . .

If pointing out that Rudy's stances more than anything are mostly liberal and on KEY issues is name-calling, why don't you people think of what YOU are saying about YOUR candidate! Obviously something's not right there.

The 'key' issues are the war, spending, crime, good management.

Rudy's fine on those.

There are other issues he's weak on -- just like most candidates. Is he Reagan II? Probably not. But, if he wins the nomination, we could do much, much worse. He'd do a good job.

I am sorry there is not enough positive to say about Rudy or Mitt that the anti Hunter bunch have to keep it up with their 12 yrar old mentality of bashing the better candidate.

It also says the Rudy & Mitt bunch are insecure. If they think Hunter doesn't have a chance, why the constant bashing
and vanity threads.

I am glad Rudy, Mitt or McCain won't be the nominee
so I won't have to vote for them.

If Rudy wins the nomination, against your predictions -- will you vote for him in the General?

What is *rational* about casting away one's Conservative principles to support psuedo-repubs? The DNC will have a field-day exibiting Rudy's famous halloween costume.

Yeah, well the GOP can do better and that is why I will support Hunter. I don't trust Rudy with a Demonrat Congress. THAT is really scary.

*looks at the polls*

What?

That's it? Multiple polls...consisting of LESS THAN 1,000 PARTICIPANTS NATIONWIDE?

That's your big thing?

Less than 1,000 out of roughly 50,000,000 Republican voters?

.00002% of that many voters?

You seriously can't be putting that much stock in them.

*sighs* When it comes to polls, I only put stock in the only one that counts: the national election.

After all, we know how accurate the exit polls were. Kerry wins! /s

@rodomila

Eh, it's a rant I've seen multiple times; it's a standard one that's C&Ped by people who are upset with others. Bit extreme for this occasion though.

Though your line about 'hallucinogenic drugs' is a bit out there. These are the primaries; there is no reason to put all support behind Rudy this early.

Maybe you should have posted your "QUESTION FOR DISCUSSION" as the basis for this thread. Rants against a candidate shouldnt be the topic for any thread...unless its based on something more than personal opinion. The end result will always be the same.. FReepers who are compelled to slash and bash come crawling out of the woodwork. Its a shame.

MM

btw: I am a Duncan supporter...but there's a year and a half for me to make my final decision...but I wont make that decision based on the rants of a overzealous Rudy supporter. (and I dont necessarily mean you) This is the time to be doing the checks and balances of ALL the candidates.. lets give them a chance to see what theyre made of.

How about some more accurate photos of Hunter? A guy who looks like everyone's pissed-off Dad isn't going to attract any moderate voters.
