LOS ANGELES -- Actor Omar Sharif has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and was ordered to take an anger management course.
Sharif was accused of punching a parking valet who'd refused to accept his European currency.
The Egyptian-born acting legend wasn't required to be in court. The plea was entered by an attorney.
The judge in Beverly Hills, Calif., placed Sharif on two years' probation.
A civil lawsuit filed by valet Juan Anderson alleged that Sharif and a female companion were leaving a restaurant in June of 2005 when the actor became upset that his SUV wasn't waiting.
According to the lawsuit, Sharif was allegedly belligerent and intoxicated and punched the valet when he refused to accept a 20-euro note.
His lawyer said Sharif decided to plead no contest because it would have cost too much to fly to Los Angeles and testify

I saw Sharif's "Lawrence Of Arabia" co-star Peter O'Toole on some talk shows recently promoting his new movie - wow, has he aged badly. If Sharif is in similar shape, I'm amazed he had the strength to even make a fist, let alone swing it at anyone.

Omar Sharif Enters Plea In Battery Case
Where'd they find a battery case big enough for him to fit in?

That could cause some discomfort if someone accidentally shut the lid on it.

Isn't this guy about 117 years old ? Nah, he's only 74. Still, this smacks of exaggeration, on the part of the "victim". Sounds like the judge thinks so too.

The Egyptian-born acting legend wasn't required to be in court.Isn't it interesting how the Hollywood elites love to be seen in public . . . . . . . except when the public they are being seen in is a courtroom???

As I posted that comment the 'Lawrence' theme from Hollywood Knights came into my head. It is funny indeed - amazing to see so many stars in it as neophytes. It wasn't out on DVD for quite a long time but is available now.
