A golfer was attacked by an alligator in New Port Richey Wednesday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
The unidentified male golfer was reportedly bit on the foot by a seven-foot alligator at the Timber Greens Golf Course in New Port Richey.
Pasco Fire Rescue responded to the golf course at about 10 a.m. and treated the man for what authorities called minor injuries.
I would have eaten the stroke but I'm not an avid golfer.

I live on a golf course in Pinellas. We have gators in all our lakes and water hazards. If the guy was bit on the foot, he had to have stepped pretty near the water or in the water, or wasn't paying attention to a gator that was sunning itself (usually they head for the water when you get close.)
You'd be surprised at the number of golfers I see reach into the water to retrieve a ball....dumb, dumb, dumb!!!
Damn alligator bit my hand off!

I played golf on Sunday. Got paired up with a snowbird from Canada. He hit his ball into a soggy, grassy area near a swamp filled with water moccasins, cottonmouths, gators, leeches, etc., and wanted to go look for it. I asked him if I could have his clubs if he didn't make it out alive. I guess he had a change of heart because he played a drop instead.
When I first moved to Port Richey, I was given two pieces of advice by a native:
1) If you see a sign of lighting or thunder anywhere, get into shelter immediately. We are the lightning capital of the world. People get hit here all the time.
2) Never go near a pond of water. The odds are something that wants to eat you is in it.
Well I don't care much for golf or golfers, but I don't go around biting them! Sounds to me like this alleged rogue alligator needs sensitivity training, pronto.
As an avid golfer I would like to know if he finished the hole?
Also I hope the course will now go ahead and increase the slope rating on the course after the incident.

The golfer's alligator shoes were quite simply a provocation that no self-respecting 'gator could ignore.
From what I've heard about the Canadians that migrate to Florida in the winter they have a habit of being real cheap when tipping so not going after the golf ball really surprises me.
