Longtime Mac-based Architecture Firm, Leers Weinzapfel Associates, Wins 2007 AIA Architecture Firm Award
Prestigious Boston Architecture Firm Wins AIA's Biggest Honor Bestowed on an Architectural Practice
The Boston architecture firm, Leers Weinzapfel Associates, a medium-sized practice and one of Boston's leading award-winning design firms has won the 2007 AIA Architecture Firm Award, the highest honor the American Institute of Architects bestows on an architectural firm. The Firm Award recognizes a practice that has consistently produced distinguished architecture for a decade or longer. The AIA board of directors awarded Leers Weinzapfel Associates this honor based on its proven, consistent ability to accept complex challenges and envision designs of elegant distinction.
A Mac-based Practice
Like many award-winning architecture firms in Boston and neighboring Cambridge, Leers Weinzapfel Associates has been an Apple Macintosh-based practice for more than a decade, defying the common statistic that American architecture firms are predominantly Windows PC-based.
"The combination of the Macintosh operating systems and evolutions of VectorWorks has been a great asset to our firm over the years," remarks Leers Weinzapfel architect Nicolas D'Angelo. The firm has used MiniCAD on Macs back in the 90's before Diehl Graphisoft was acquired by the German Nemetschek AG and the program evolved and changed its name to VectorWorks. VectorWorks is credited with being "powerful, yet very easy to use -- a real plus." "AutoCAD compatibility is better than ever in version 12.5.1," says D'Angelo, "while still retaining all the great features that make VectorWorks unique, such as its use of scales, layers and classes, easy-to-use object attributes, trouble-free printing and much more."
The award will be presented at the American Architectural Foundation Accent on Architecture Gala, February 9, 2007, at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

PIsh Posh. We all know that nothing useful ever came out of a Starbucks-sipping, rainbow flag-waving, Jane Fonda-loving Mac user.
