The legislation would also ban bar from refusing to serve customers based on such factors as their race, sex, religion, and nation origin. So if a bar cuts off a minority, they put themself at legal risk.
Great piece of legislation.

Ouch, a Pubbie, too. Exactly why I won't join or give money to a party.

The funniest part is that race, I assume, had nothing to do with the alledged incident.
But they just tack that clause right on there.
BS.

I assumed the same simply by their lack of mentioning it.
If it had been about race, it would have been in big bold letters on the front page.

The bar tells a different story and claims he didnt order anything at all. Um, you can't forcibly eject people from your place of business for not buying anything.
Pretty weak defense by the bar.

All 50 states and Washington, D.C. are crammed with full-time, professional lawmakers. Making laws is what they do; if they don't make laws, they can't go back home and show their constituents what fine lawmakers they are so they can get re-elected and go on making laws.
We're in big, big trouble...
To: wideawake
Yes, you most certainly can. The bar is private property.
To: Millee
What a dumbass move by the bar owners. Thye will have MADD, SADD, and every other ADD on their tails from now on.

While I don't agree with what the bar did and it doesn't appear racial--I thought that establishments reserved the right to refuse service to anyone.
On the other hand, he wasn't asking for service--he wanted non-service. Ok. I'm confusing myself here lol!

Um, you can't forcibly eject people from your place of business for not buying anything Sorry, I missed that part of your point.
Disregard my previous post.
To: andrew2527
Yes, you most certainly can. The bar is private property. It is private property, but it is legally a public accomodation. You are not allowed to discriminate in service, and if you have any requirements of dress and deportment ("no shoes, no shirt, no service" etc.) you have to post them.
You cannot just randomly pick out someone who is not harassing your customers or staff and throw them out.
To: Millee
Does every single incident that happens require new legislation???? Why yes, of course. All of the world's problems would disappear if we just had enough laws... and spent enough money.
I hope the sarcasm was obvious.

I just went to Home Depot and left without buying anything. Fortunately, they didn't throw me up against the door requiring me to get 12 stitches.
The restaurant was way out of line here!
To: wideawake
Bars can ask people to leave who are simply loitering. They should not slam their heads against a door.
The proper thing to do if the patron will not leave would be to call the police.

I just went to Home Depot and left without buying anything. Is that even possible????
