Gay Marriage

Posted on 01/31/2007 6:26:35 PM PST by mojojockey

I have a friend who is very liberal and who is gay. Whenever I explain to him why gay marriage isn't a good idea he never seems to understand. So fellow Freepers please give me your input on why gay marriage is not a good idea, and how do you answer the silly argument that "Well straights are having divorces , so blah blah"

Well, what are you saying?

Sorry, but first "gay" means happy. Did you mean homosexual?

And secondly, they can't get married because marriage is only between a man and a woman no matter how you slice it. Since the homosexual community has so much contempt for marriage that they'd rather have "sex" with another homosexual, it gauls me whenever I hear about the "gay marriages." If they had any respect for marriage, they'd get psychological help and try to break their rotten behavior patterns. It can be done. And since they have NO respect for the sanctity of marriage, they want to trash it under the banner of "well, we're just like you, only we're a little different."

Well, as long as it does not extend to adopting children, and thus includes only the willing principals above the age of reason - I'd say it would serve them right [I mean the divorce proceedings, custody of a cat disputes, and the rest of it]. And why shouldn't they be hit in the nose with marriage tax penalty?

Once you have changed the definition of marriage to suit one minority, all the other minorities will clamour for changes to accommodate them, citing your initial change as precedent.

Mormons will want change. Muslims who marry girls under our legal age will want change. And what will we say? "Sorry, gays can but you can't."

This won't satisfy your friends, by the way. They'll squeal "You're comparing me with bigamists and pedophiles??" All you can do is give them an affronted look and gasp, "Are you calling Muslims pedophiles???"

He doesn't understand because he doesn't want to understand.

You cannot reason with a man whose sexual preference is as much politically as psychologically motivated.

If he or she gets "married" they are opened to all the laws and regulations straight people have to abide by....including divorce. Being gay and "married" does insure happiness or equal rights.

Tell him that the people in this country are fed up with special interest groups changing the meaning of words to suit themselves. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Period. He is perfectly free to marry a woman, he just chooses not to. Therefore he is not being discriminated against.

If he's going to look at it from a strictly non-religious point of view -- ask him how he can procreate without outside help? It isn't natural -- Adam and Steve cannot bring forth life.

Tell him if we allow gays to marry, then where do we stop?? The perv men loving little boys are already breathing down our necks, waiting for us to allow gay marriage so they can step in and ask for their perverted rights. Then you'll have the freaks who love animals asking for their right to marry their goat, etc. Pandoras box, slippery slope......

Given your description of this guy, I can't understand why you'd even think that any kind of reasoned argument would have the slightest impact. "Pearls before swine" and all that. Besides which, if you present a logical argument which pisses him off, he's likely to go to the DA and have you prosecuted for a "hate crime".
