Rah! Rah! Robert A. Heinlein...

It was an essay Spider Robinson wrote applauding Heinlein. Robinson suggested Heinlein was a conservative, as I recall (Robinson is not -- a libertarian at best).

On his website he also has a "Are You a Republican" quiz.

I'm at 71%.

Probably would have been higher, but you can only check one option in each category.

I am:
Kurt Vonnegut
For years, this unique creator of absurd and haunting tales denied that he had anything to do with science fiction.

I don't think RAH can be called a conservative other than in a fiscal sense.

Anybody so obviously fascinated by gender-switching, homosexuality, incest and other interesting sexual variations doesn't fit my definition.

Somewhat, but also have scared a few readers.

RAH was really a pro-military libertarian - his books give social conservatives and welfare-state liberals hives, but they have inspired two entire generations of SF writers all across the political spectrum - myself included. ;)

Agreed. I believe I've read everthing he ever wrote, starting when I was about six.

The last few books were pretty tough going at times, though.

The author might be a pinko but when I click on the site all I get is a whiteo screen.

Anyway, my favorite science fiction writer is Brian Lumley.

Heinlein can't be right for me- I posted this years ago:

E.E. "Doc" Smith
"While "looking up other things," I ran across a fond old name I hadn't seen in ages-- E. E. "Doc" Smith, father of the Space Opera. I read most of his books as a teenager, and while I frankly recall little other than I wanted to be Blackie DuQuesne, I thought I'd post these links for your enjoyment."

Well, I came up Asimov, but I really wanted to be Frank Herbert.

I am:
Isaac Asimov
One of the most prolific writers in history, on any imaginable subject.  Cared little for art but created lasting and memorable tales.

I am:
Samuel R. "Chip" Delany
Few have had such broad commercial success with aggressively experimental prose techniques.

Which science fiction writer are you?

Never heard of him.

David Brin is one of the greatest living Science Fiction authors. If you haven't read his work then you are really missing something.

Frank Herbert
His style is often stilted, but he created what some consider the greatest SF novel of all time.

I am:
E.E. "Doc" Smith
The inventor of space opera. His purple space war tales remain well-read generations later.

Which science fiction writer are you?

Cool...I always liked Doc Smith...

What, no Issac Asimov here? He was the best. Right now I'm reading "Foundation's Fear", the first novel in the Second Foundation Trilogy written by Gregory Benford.

By the way, I guess I'm E.E. "Doc" Smith.

I am:
Robert A. Heinlein
Beginning with technological action stories and progressing to epics with religious overtones, this take-no-prisoners writer racked up some huge sales numbers.

Which science fiction writer are you?

Wonder if Poul Anderson or Greg Bear were on the list?
