It's quotes weekend! What are your favorite quotes? Some of my favorites:

"I see America, not in the setting sun of a black night of despair ahead of us, I see America in the crimson light of a rising sun fresh from the burning, creative hand of God. I see great days ahead, great days possible to men and women of will and vision." --Carl Sandburg

"It is by the goodness of God that in our country we have those three unspeakably precious things: freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the prudence never to practice either of them." --Mark Twain

"Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love." --Jane Austen

LOL! Thanks! I had one of my kids out this afternoon. I was going to answer some posts on this thread, but it would mean disturbing a sleeping pet who was wrapped around my left hand.

Your post about dancing reminded me of something I saw years ago. I had a couple of buddies who used to go to the library and look at some of the master's degree theses for architecture majors. The master's degree is the last chance that some of these people have to be as insane as they'd like to be with a building. Some of them were interesting, and others were nonsense. Strangely, one guy's thesis had nothing of value from an architectural standpoint. He titled it, "A series of pictures that I took during my two years of grad school," and that's all that was in the "thesis." He just had snapshots and a little text. Some of the text was made of quotes from his thesis adviser. He was clearly just sucking up to the professor. One of the quotes was "Anyone can learn to dance." It's funny what we remember.

On the other hand, when you two start the back-and-forth, I feel like a bit of a voyeur...;)

I have to get out the telescope to feel that way. You should see what he's writing on her cast.

ooooo, Bill, I love that quote! It's so serious in a ridiculous way!

Funny story. Do you know if the guy got his degree? Did the professor fall for it?

It is a cake with carroway seeds in it. It is a very old fashioned traditional English cake. Very easy to make and one that dad loves to have a slice of for supper.

Old Fashioned Seed Cake

Fat for greasing
¾ cup butter or marg (I use marg)
¾ cup fine granulated sugar
3 eggs beaten
2 ¼ cups flour
¼ teaspoon baking powder
2 tablespoons caraway seeds

Preheat the oven to 325F.

Grease a deep 7 inch cake tin (pan) and line with greaseproof (parchment) paper and grease again.

Cream the fat and sugar until light an fluffy then gradually beat in the eggs adding a little flour with the last of the egg to prevent curdling.

Sieve the flour with the baking powder and beat lightly into the creamed mixture. Stir in the caraway seeds and turn the mixture into the prepared tin (pan).

Bake for 1 ½ hours or until firm to the touch.

Cool on a wire rack

Serves 6 – 8

Hi snugs,

Let's see, it was B-r-r-r cold here in Florida today: about 55 degrees this afternoon when I went out for coffee...:)

I know everybody else is in places where it is much colder, but to me that is cold!

You seem to do alot of baking (and posting nice pictures on the Daily Dose, I think?, right?) Good for you and those who get to enjoy what you bake. My sisters or mother used to bake cookies or a cake every Saturday afternoon. I loved to eat them but never picked up the habit...
