Cute dogs. I adopted one 2 years ago. Too much for the owners. Adorable but dumber than a box of rocks. After I rehabilitated his hind quarters from a botched neuter the rascal dug up my backyard. Gave him to a family who lives on a ranch. He likes to herd the cows.

Scared Shih Tzu-less.

Nasty little creatures.
I will never understand people who willingly get these "dogs". Mops with teeth is a much better classification.

I have 2 Shih Tzus. Of all the dogs I've ever owned, they are the gentlest, most lovable dogs I've ever had.
Those 2 free-rangers look like they could use a bit of a grooming. Poor things.

Real dogs weigh 85 lbs, slobber alot and retrieve ducks or sniff out dead bodies.

Wild out of control Schitzus? Have they mauled any children yet, chew up any old ladies? Oh they aren't pittschzus so I guess they haven't.
I have a Jack Russell Terrier that looks just like these dogs except his color and markings are JRT. Everyone thinks he is a Schitzu (sp?) but he is full JRT, a throwback to something bred into the breed long ago. Cutest sweetest dog I have ever owned.

Awwww, what cute l'il mops.
As for the concerned woman in the story that's feeding the beasts. If she would stop providing easy pickins, animal control might have better luck trapping the little furballs.

The pooch in the back is the identical twin of my own dog.
He's a rescue dog, and spoiled rotten! I had a second one also, but he was ripped in half by a pit bull. So my little Schnookie is the King of the castle around here.
I was told by the VSA lady who gave them to me that many times, in the case of little dogs like this, it is usually a case of a career woman buying a cute little dog for companionship, then getting married and having kids. These little breeds are one person dogs, and can't take the competition of a baby. After nine years experience, I tend to agree. The cops found my little guy thrown in a dumpster behind a store, so badly beaten that they took him to a vet to be put down. As if...Shih Tzu has to be Chinese for "ME AND ONLY ME". I sure hope that Miss Toth gets to keep and love them, but she's going to need to find a good groomer first!

You know... I can't tell you how the sound of a roaming pack of Shitzy Yappies fills me with terror.
I can rough house with a 100 lb rott, a barking pit bull makes me sniff with derision and a German Shepherd is a piece of cake...
But a gaggle of snarling ankle biting toys? Get me a shotgun. As G-d is my witness, these manic little potroasts send me for the hills.

I know some people say they have smart ones, but I've never met a Shih Tzu with more than three brain cells -- and those were all used for snarling, biting, and inappropriate elimination.
Guy I used to work for bought one for his kids. They never could even get the little monster housebroken - and it bit EVERYbody. I have no idea what happened to it, but in the words of Dorothy Parker, I hope it wasn't trivial . . .
I gotta agree that real dogs DO something -- and I vote for finding ducks (I can take or leave the dead bodies thing, although I know it's a public service.) My Lab is a first class duck finder -- but she weighs almost exactly half of 85 pounds. She's unusually petite, though. We were at a hunt test with around 200 dogs, and she was the smallest Lab by at least 15 or 20 pounds. More the size of a largish Boykin.

The article says the residents didn't know where they came from. Obviously they were DUMPED by someone who didn't want them any more. Irresponsible people search out a neighborhood that looks like a lot of sympathetic people live there and they DUMP their unwanted, or unsatisfactory, pets assuming that someone will take them in. I know because I have been that person who takes in the stray. I got a Schnauzer that way one time. And a white fluffy cat.
Both of those pets turned out to have personality disorders and I suffered with them for years. I was sorry when they finally died, but I am more careful now about giving strays a home. Get your animals through a rescue organization so you know what you are getting.

I wish I could afford one of these dogs.
Sigh.
