(2007-01-11) In an early display of her newly-acquired political power, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi threatened today to stage a symbolic vote on a non-binding resolution rejecting President George Bushs plan to send more troops to Iraq and endorsing a strategic withdrawal.
Were going to stand up to the president, said Rep. Pelosi, D-CA. Were going to tell Bush that he cant just do whatever he wants without facing the symbolic wrath of the American people as expressed through the non-binding words of their representatives.
The Speaker said she would call the full House to order, and take two votes.
Ill ask those who oppose the presidents troop surge to raise their right hands, she said, and those who favor rapid withdrawal of U.S. forces to raise their left hands as well.
White House spokesman Tony Snow, when asked for Mr. Bushs reaction to the vote, said simply, Sounds like a photo op.
Kerry will raise both hands, reconsider and then raise both feet.
Interesting they raise their "right" hands to oppose.
Just like her symbolic "reforms" and her symbolic caring for those other than her effete elite. The Dems' mission is to seem rather than to be, which is why they chose Kerry in 2006: He seemed to be a war hero, but wasn't. Pelosi and Reid count on fooling all the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time. Unfortunately, even Brownback and few other Republicans have been duped.
Make that Kerry in 2004.
Before I would let Democrats put up their hands en masse I would demand that they all apply underarm deodorant.
America sent a clear message. We want.....um...political theatre? Symbolism?
All a show for their precious lefty supporters. Would they actually withhold the funds? I don't think their position is strong enough to do that.
Funny thing is, they probably WILL take a symbolic vote on this.......
Scott's got a couple really good ones today.
Almost got me on that one.
Seems about what Nuancy would do.
