Suzanne: At Least I Don't Have a Kid in Iraq
tmz.com ^ | 1/9/07

In the wake of a devastating fire that destroyed her Malibu home, Suzanne Somers maintains a positive attitude.

In a statement to TMZ issued by her rep, Suzanne says, "My nature is to look at the glass half full. I don't have a son or daughter in Iraq. I haven't lost a loved one. We will rebuild, and I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience."

Suzanne and her husband were not in Malibu during the blaze.

Maybe she lives next door to Streisand and doesn't want any trouble from the fat loon.

And that explains the media wondering if the fire was arson

Okay. Keep thinking that. I'll view it in another way.

Keep in mind that she is from the ultra-liberal part of the spectrum, and that whatever she lost in this fire will be easily replaced (with the exception of personal effects), as opposed to what someone of lesser means would face in a similar situation. So, no, I don't think she was just reacting due to shock. There was intention in her comment.

I heard her on a medical talk-radio show here in Houston a few months ago. She spent some time talking about her abortion with great sadness and mentioned the possbile abortion b/c link. I really think you might be off base with regards to her.

Yeah, I'm with you. I don't know, or care, about her politics, but I took it the same way you did.

Could you imagine during WWII a Hollywood actor saying "At least I don't have a kid on Guadalcanal."

Some of you people just must lead miserable lives, spending all your time trying to find something to offend you.

FWIT 'Three's Company' has aged pretty well. At its best it was a very poor man's Moliere but they should have set it in 1896 or something. Three adults being unable to find a landlord who would not care much less allow their living arrangement is implausible when set in...1970s Santa Monica?!? One of the most socially liberal cities in the country (named after Augustine's mother no less).

If she had phrased her comment as "Whatever hardships we are enduring are nothing compared to what our soldiers in Iraq are going through" would that have been better? I think it's what she meant.

First of all, there are 147 stories about this on Google News; this is the ONLY one that has anything about Iraq in the headline.

Secondly, the TMZ page has this:

"In a statement to TMZ issued by her rep, Suzanne says..."

She did NOT issue a statement; she said this at her home to a gaggle of reporters with microphones in her face.

Plus, the TMZ clip doesn't have her entire statement.

See for yourself:

In summer 2005, Somers made her Broadway debut in a one-woman show, The Blonde in the Thunderbird, a collection of stories about her life and career. The show was supposed to run until September, but negative publicity and disappointing ticket sales caused a late July closing. Somers blamed the harsh reviews (the New York Times: "...a swan dive into narcissism"; New York Post: "smug and remorseless") and told the Post: "These men [New York critics] are curmudgeons, and maybe I went too close to the bone for them. I was lying there naked, and they decided to kick me and step on me, just like these visions you see in Iraq."

While others lead lives where they are allowing themselves to be deluded into believing people like this don't have an agenda when making such comments.

Never heard that but the words for it would probably be "swan dive into narcissism" and "smug and remorseless".

She has a huge house in Palm Springs, which I think is her primary residence.

You sound like you're speaking from experience; so which is it, allowing yourself to be spun by the MSM and their agenda, or doing the spinning yourself?
