We (Arizona State) hired Dirk Koetter from Boise in 2000. He was known as an offensive guru, and we had some pretty exciting games with him as HC.

He was fired in November...apparently not PAC-10 HC material as he didn't win "enough" games. Seems the boosters didn't like him because he was shy and aloof and didn't do the backslapping that was expected of him.

I think there's a whole lot more to coaching than just X's and O's, unfortunately. Hopefully, Dennis Erickson knows the score (pardon the pun).

I hate Boise State, but had they won or lost, they had no reason whatsoever to hang their heads.

Maybe if more SEC teams would get away from their 7 home game schedule and play a few more decent non-conference teams

That's the trick, isn't it? Finding decent non-conference teams...

Is it possible for there to be a tie in the BCS "Championship" game?
And if so, and it ended up a tie, would Boise St. get the #1 ranking they deserve for going undefeated?

No, not the way overtime is structured in the college game.

Yes, Oklahoma played a tougher schedule. And yet they lost to a supposedly "inferior" team. Champions find a way to win, even against inferior opponents. Oklahoma did not.

Yes, Oklahoma was the better team on paper, but football isn't played on paper and, in the end, the only thing that matters in any game is who scored the most points. That's why they actually play the game. Show me all the stats you like about how much better Oklahoma is and I'll just go back to the only stat that really matters: BSU 43, OSU 42.

I was hearing a type of media bias against Boise State from the beginning of the game. (Hicks from Idaho mentality) As the game continued the elitist announcers started changing their tone.

Seems like us folks in the WAC don't get no respect!

"Marking your post for when the Gators shock the world on January 8th. I really hope all the Buckeye players have the same attitude that you do."

How could OSU not? They are after all big 10, and "all that" and the media's darlings. I kept seeing on the crawler that UF was 1-4 against big 10 bowl games....never saw that OSU was 0-7 against their last 7 SEC bowl games. The Boise win was a great game, so fun to watch, but USC "upsetting" Michigan who was cheated out of playing for the title (just ask the paid sports guys)was the ABSOLUTE SWEETEST! GO GATORS!

Start the playoffs in December with 8 teams then do a single elimination.

I thing a 4 team playoff would be a good start. It pushes the controversy far enough down the line (who is #4?) without disturbing either the integrity of the regular season or the credibility of the eventual champion. Just my 2 cents.

They don't want the national championship to ever go to a team like Boise State because it would cost their programs too much money.

I disagree. The problem is that the major conferences are more worried about their own championships, TV money & Bowl alliances. A playoff system competes with all of that. I think that if a financial package could be structured to make it attractive to the conferences, then you'd have a playoff.

Then again, I think the NFL should be compensating the NCAA (or individual university) for every underclassmen that they draft, so what do I know?

You said, in part: But kudos to the Bobby Bowden strategy of getting to be the only decent team in a crap conference thus getting an assured bowl game.

Are you referring to the conference with Miami, Virginia Tech, Clemson, among others? While I confess my alma mater UNC has never put football first (although M*ck Br*wn almost changed that), the ACC is hardly a "crap conference."

"Mark my words, this will end up being the game that gives us a college playoff."

Hate to break it to you, but you and the 15 other people that watched this game may know where Boise is located but the northeast (sports center of universe - in their own minds) doesn't care.

best game ever

every trick play in the book

hook and ladder on 4th and 18 to tie the game

wide receiver option pass to tie it again in OT

then the statue of liberty for the gamewinning 2 point conversion

followed by the guy who scored the gamewinning 2 pointer proposing to the head cheerleader

was this a live game or a hollywood script? unreal

give the blue field boys a shot at OSU

I have never enjoyed watching a game anymore than this one. My daughter and future SIL went to sleep earlier and they are sick to have missed it.

Games like this come along about once in a lifetime, if that often.

:)

I watched the whole game and didn't detect any "elitist" bias against Boise State.
