Thanks Upchuck,
Terrible and sad especially this time of year.
Wow, you owe your guardian angel, big time!!
I traveled as much as 75,000 to 100,00 miles a year in my factory rep job before I retired, most of it by automobile, and I saw a lot of wrecks caused by drivers falling asleep at the wheel. I only had one serious accident in all of those years and miles. I totaled an almost new Ford when it was overturned by a sudden freak gust of very high wind that also overturned a big tractor-trailer rig right behind me. I got a damaged cervical vertebra from being thrown violently into the roof, and was off the job for almost a year.
A seat belt would probably have kept me from injury in that accident. Ever since that time I have always buckled up any and every time I get into any vehicle, even if I'm just going to the Minit Mart for a jug of milk.
Very sad. This happens often in Florida, because we have swampy areas and retention ponds near the highways and people often drive into them at night or in fogs. The water just closes over the car and it can take a long time to find them.
Still, I'm glad they weren't kidnapped and murdered by some nut, which was one of my first fears. An accident isn't pleasant by any means, but at least an accident is just an accident.
Prayers for them and their kids.
"hard to see at night if you don't know the area".
Ping! Sorry we are having a sad holiday season.
"Unless it was the victims calling for help!!!"
Oh how horrible that would be. How far is the crash site from Myrtle Beach? Since they left at 4 am, would it still be dark when they went off the road?

My guess is Myrtle Beach is about 200 miles from Rocky Mount. They left at 4:00 am. sunrise is at 7:00 am. Corrects my prior estimate from 2 to 3 hours.

Awful. May they rest in peace. Prayers for their family.
It is about 200 miles or so from their house. My assumption may be completely wrong. But that would take less than 4 hours to get there. So early AM.
From Mrytle to Rocky Mount is over 210 miles...would have been driving closer to 4 hours at that point. They could have been run off the road as well.
Somebody called 911 and reported a collision...
Oh, man. My worst nightmare as a bridgeaphobic. So sorry the rumored news bulletin I saw earlier turned out to be the Guays - had hoped for a better outcome. Prayers for their souls and for the comfort of their families.
Agree, I rechecked my map - see post 47.
Rocky Mount? Is that on the way to Queens? Maybe I'm thinking of Rocky Knob, but I thought Rocky Mount was in Western NC.
I noticed the word "collision" and wondered if there is another car in there, too. Or was it a hit & run? Or maybe it was their car colliding with a guardrail on a bridge. Very sad.
If there was a witness, I hope he or she will come forward now.
So if they went off the road in daylight, nobody saw it?
Nobody made any attempt to rescue them?
911 reported a collision at the location last week. Highway Patrol was dispatched and could not find any collision. I wonder if they even got out of their vehicle to look. Probably drove right by and didn't even stop.
They probably couldn't have been saved but what a shame!
Rocky Mount is just east of 95 in NC.
Do we know if this was a rural location?
I just heard that on the CW11 news! Wow, unbelievable! The family members are justifiably devastated. How much worse, knowing this?
The daughter is on Fox right now critisizing the local law enforcement. The bodies were found by her brother and uncle.
