"hard to see at night if you don't know the area".

I-95 in Fl, Ga and S.C. is flat, smooth, straight as an arrow, like a green tunnel and it's easy to get hypnotized by the road, especially at night. From Fla to NY - that's 1000 miles of mean macadam.

The Guays were not elderly, but leaving at 4 a.m. means they would have driven in the dark for 2 hours, just about to Rocky Mount.

A very sad ending.

From Mrytle to Rocky Mount is over 210 miles...would have been driving closer to 4 hours at that point. They could have been run off the road as well.

Somebody called 911 and reported a collision...

and winter time with the heater on in the car, easy to get drowsy... and if his wife is like me, goes to sleep and leaves the husband to drive.

I checked Mapquest and Rocky Mount is 3-hours, 55-minutes from Myrtle Beach. So the sun would have been up around 7:30 or so and they left their home around 4.
