A retired city sanitation worker and his wife mysteriously vanished while driving from South Carolina to visit their family in Queens.

Wayne Guay, 57, and his wife, Dianne, 55, are believed to have left their house early Thursday in Myrtle Beach, where they retired after living for years in Ridgewood, Queens. But their desperate daughter Megan Guay yesterday said the pair - who have three children and two grandkids - never arrived at her sister's home in Ridgewood.

Relatives are hunting for Dianne and Wayne Guay, here with his grandkid and the car the couple was believed to have been driving (above).

The car is a white, late model Mazda.

Sadly, can only think of horrible scenarios here. . .leaving a 4 a.m.; perhaps someone saw them loading there car; or they stopped for gas before leaving town and were followed early morn by someone noticing/wanting early Christmas. . .car/gifts. . .

Surely there is a trail here of some kind; given video cameras etc. . .

That said' perhaps less noxioius scenario in that he had a heart attack and left the road. . .

I feel sorry for this family. . .this is surely a nightmare scenario.

(. . .and odd in a way how 'news'/events mirror in time. . .Think of the family enroute to home post Thanksgiving and got stuck in the snow and family all engaged in search. . .)

Two more: Why were the coins being brought? And who knew the couple had the coins with them?

[Megan said the family filed a missing-persons report with the Horry County, S.C., police, but no search-and-rescue teams have been activated.

(. . .) The family rented a helicopter to do its own 50-mile sweep around Myrtle Beach, said Danny Rodriguez, 38, a son-in-law who called 100 area hospitals and scores of police departments up and down Interstate 95. "This is foul play - or they're in a body of water or in a ditch, or down a hill or in the woods, someplace we can't see them," Megan said.]

Just realized the 'rest of the story' here. . .

Incredible. . .hoping this family is getting the needed assistance by now. . .

You may already know this:

I-95 in the DC area can become confusing when intersecting with the Beltway and some people end up in some tough areas.

Why were the coins being brought?

Well, it is Christmas and birthday time. . .and would not be surprisied if 'friends and neighbors' new. And if not their friends/neighbors. . .maybe one of the children's friends/neighbors. . .family. . .

But of course, 'gifts in the car'; and a car itself. . . are enough of a draw for some. . .

. . .and there is still the possibility of just being run off the road; or just 'running off-road'. . .

What I cannot understand is the lack of police/FBI assistance here. . .(beyond their 'report' that is. . .)

It seems the Guays made this trip regularly, however, the Wilson bridge construction has made the route substantially more confusing. Especially for all the "senior snowbirds" driving back/forth from Florida.

( I once 'veered' into Newark, N.J. by 'accident' around one in the morning; driving alone) the only consolation was that police were in 'full force' apparently investigating various 'incidences' on just about every street I 'mis-managed' to find; but it was scary to behold). . .

I do hope by now, this is a 'full investigation'. . .am wondering as well; can cell-phones be tracked if they are on turned off or can they just be 'on' or must the phone be in use in order to track it. . .

What a painful and horrible situation. . .

(Would check with a good psychic as well). 12 posted on 12/11/2006 4:31:14 AM PST b

I have a sneaking suspicion the cops know more than they're saying.

And yet, we are suppose to keep our guns at home while traveling from state to state.

Not me, I'll risk it.

Several years ago, a friend's brother did not show up after driving home from work one evening. The family (and LEO) searched his route for over a week. The friend finally found his brother's car and body in a heavily overgrown ditch. All involved had driven by this area numerous times and overlooked the well concealed vehicle.

Prayers for a better outcome in this situation.
