You may already know this:
I-95 in the DC area can become confusing when intersecting with the Beltway and some people end up in some tough areas.

( I once 'veered' into Newark, N.J. by 'accident' around one in the morning; driving alone) the only consolation was that police were in 'full force' apparently investigating various 'incidences' on just about every street I 'mis-managed' to find; but it was scary to behold). . .
I do hope by now, this is a 'full investigation'. . .am wondering as well; can cell-phones be tracked if they are on turned off or can they just be 'on' or must the phone be in use in order to track it. . .
What a painful and horrible situation. . .

Understatement of the Year! Especially while driving 70MPH and you have to read three overhead signs at the same time to figure out which lane you need to be in.
WE know the model of the car, and the gas tank capacity..assume that like most people starting a long trip, they filled the car just before they left. We have an estimate of the MPH the car gets on the highway, and thus we can figure otu the farthest they could have driven before refueling, and everyone pays with a credit crad these days..since their cards haven't been used, one has to strongly suspect foul play, or an acident. Sadly, I fear the first option..
