Hey, TV Land - a message from the ladies: Kiss my grits!
The 100 Greatest TV Quotes and Catchphrases (starting Monday at 10 p.m.) features a mere four offerings from women. A few TV experts are now saying Never mind to the sexist tally.
Its crazy that there are so few women represented, said Terry Lawler, executive director of New York Women in Film & Television. Its a glaring omission, and you have to wonder how many women were part of the choosing. You also have to wonder why there wasnt any effort to ask, Are we representing the full spectrum of women and shows that have been important?

ROTFLMAO
..."it's a vast right wing conspiracy".
Do women with scrotums count?
I agree with the "Kiss my grits" and "Nevermind" those were two catch phrases for many years. I'm feeling generous, throw in "Can we talk" as well.
No "Where's the Beef?!" (Clara Pellar)
"The mother/wife/girlfriend in comedies is often the sensible person on the show. The goof (i.e. the guy) usually gets the catch phrase".
...actually the "sensible person" is also the black, asian, muslim or handicapped. Yes, the"goof" is the guy, but always a WHITE guy. And he's usually at least 50 lbs overweight/balding etc.
Example: Bob Newhart tells wife [Suzanne Pleshette] the former girlfriend was a failure, that she became a school---- [at this point, he remembers that she too is a schoolteacher and stops mid sentence.]
She replies, deadpan, "A school, Bob? She became a school?"
"Well, she only thought she was a school..."
Kelly had lots of zingers in "Married With Children"

Where's the Beef is number 7, but it is just listed as a Wendy's ad instead of being attributed to Clara Pellar.
"Yes, the"goof" is the guy, but always a WHITE guy. And he's usually at least 50 lbs overweight/balding etc."
Hey it takes a lot of work being the most un-cool stereotype in the world. The way we are inundated with coolness 24/7 and still mange to avoid hipness, rhythm or style is a testament to our resiliency! /s ;-)
Say what you want about the odious Rosanne Barr/Arnold, but on her show "Rosanne" she consistently had some of the funniest one-liners ever -- at least she did before she got her nose job.
Oh really?
JERRY: What about the breathing, the panting, the moaning, the screaming? ELAINE: Fake, fake, fake, fake.
Jerry: "But you Yada'ed over the best part."
Elaine: "I mentioned the lobster bisque."
ok. that's 1.
"Maybe the dingo ate your baby."
That was my other choice (grin).
"Like Buttah!"
My guess is that it's simply because it's guys who memorize catch phrases. How many WOMEN do you know who know, when asked the air speed of a swallow, whether it's European or African?
