There is some of this going on here too...We live in the country but in my house we have windows all around..In my kitchen I have lots of windows so when someone knocks on the door I can see anyone very clearly(the door most people use in the family)..I get my gun and shout out the window what do you want (that is if I do not recognize the person)you can't be to cautious any more..I do have a gun that I keep with me or if I am in the house it is where I can grab it right away..If I go out walking the property the gun is with me at all times..Isn't it sad we have to do this...I can tell anyone that would like to try breaking into my house if they value their life they will think very hard about that..
