Police Kill North Carolina College Student Accused of Stealing PlayStation 3 Consoles
Fox News ^ | December 04, 2006 | AP Staff Writer

The State Bureau of Investigation is examining the case and three deputy sheriffs on the team are on paid leave, New Hanover County Sheriff Sid Causey said Sunday.

Peyton Strickland, 18, was killed Friday night at a home he shared with three roommates. His German shepherd dog, Blaze, also was shot to death.

The deputies were helping police for the University of North Carolina at Wilmington serve an arrest warrant that charged Strickland with armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and breaking and entering a vehicle.

Causey declined to identify the suspended deputies — members of an elite emergency response team — because he feared for their safety.

Roommate Mike Rhoton said Strickland was unarmed, but may have been holding a video game controller when he went to the door, which the roommate said was bashed in by officers.

Here is a nationwide map of botched paramilitary raids. A lot of police need to be reigned in. The thresh-hold for the kind of raid we saw in Wilmington should be very high indeed. I'm amazed at how many supposed conservatives on this thread have a hard-on for jack booted thug police tactics.

Police forces attract sadists. Its a sad fact of life. These types relish the opportunity to commit murder in the name of the law.

They have a family to go home to, so how else do you go arrest somebody known to have committed a gun crime? The stupid fool probably made a dumb move. Police training is very specific on when to pull the trigger. These guys are highly trained for situations.

As for "relishing murder," try wearing a new pair of Nikes through town and see what kind of society we have today. A young black man can join the Boy Scouts, but he can't wear the uniform down the block or he's going to end up dead. Welcome to America, land of the free.

First, it doesn't help your point to use vulgar language. Second, nobody knows the whole story yet, so pre-judging is completely wrong. Third, only God is perfect, I just expect the Police to be very good at what they do. Fourth, a true conservative has always stood behind law enforcement. And lastly, its always the crooks and drug pushers that whine about the 'jack booted thug police' so which one of them are you?

It doesn't sound rational to me.

Looks like a fun, happy-go-lucky, wouldn't hurt a flea, type of kid...

Now, put a rifle in front of his face...

Tells a different story, huh?...This group photo was a picture the police found on the suspects website (MySpace or some other) during the course of the investigation.

From the Raleigh News & Observer:

This photo is included in a warrant returned Monday in the robbery investigation. The warrant said one suspect, Ryan David Mills, a UNCW student, was pictured on the Internet with guns. The warrant did not identify the three men, say whether the guns are real or whether the picture was taken where the shooting happened."

Please. I'm sure they didn't go out to 7-11 with the rifles and shotguns.

Also, middle-aged pudgy staff officers in the unit above mine in Kuwait took photos all jocked up w/ commando gear and weapons. That didn't turn them into Navy SEALS either.

These kids are trying to play at being bad-asses and the police are trying to cover up what tactical errors they may have made w/ the dynamic entry.

Wait...wait....wait. Your telling me that not only do I get to murder people, but if I recruit a sadist I get a day off too??? ohmygosh.

It's all starting to make sense now. I always wondered why some of the other guys got sent to those advanced Marquis De Sade schools. And Captain Jekyll/Hide told me they were boring police management and hiring classes.

The FOP President will be hearing from me.

"It's VERY unlikely that they'd send out a "elite emergency response team" with no-knock entry authorization, if there had been no prior attempt to arrest this guy and/or he hadn't failed to appear in court"..."Courts and police are not allowed to release information about juvenile criminal records for someone who does not yet have any adult convictions, but will certainly take into it account when deciding what level of force to use in making an arrest."

Courts use SWAT teems all the time based on the defendants propensity towards violence and evading arrest, as you point out in your post. Someone who the courts think will flee is never served the first time in a normal way. I am not saying this kid should have been served in the normal way either. He should have been staked out and arrested in a controlled way in order to avoid violence and eliminating his ability to flee.

Why are you defending no knock arrests and raids? Do you like it when defendants or police officers are killed or injured during their commission? It happens all the time, and often to the wrong people. Innocent people. People unlucky enough to live next door to criminals, or who are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If it happened to you would you be ok with it if police killed you and your family along with your pets if they make a mistake and accidentally mix up your house with a criminals house? It has happened dozens of times.

Did your buddies just rob a college student and beat the crap out of him? What kind of idiotic comparison is that?

"These kids are trying to play at being bad-asses..."

They stopped "playing" badass when they beat the crap out of a student and stole $1200 worth of merchandise. Felony charges coupled with photos of suspects brandishing weapons? Would you have the same reaction if the guys in the picture were black and brandishing those weapons? Just curious if that would make a difference? Beacause if you insist that would not change your opinion, you would be lying and you know it.

Sounds like you enjoy playing badass too. Isn't the internet wonderful? You never have to worry about showing your real cards...

As I click the link now, I see this has been removed from the article:

I wonder why????

I was making the comparison that merely posing with a weapon doesn't make someone a vicious killer that requires the midnight dynamic entry. Also, it seems the beating and robbing bit has been removed from the original article. Care to comment?

Also, you again ignored my point about why they couldn't just arrest these clowns while they were at a seven eleven. They probably weren't carrying the AR around town.

Sounds like you enjoy playing badass too. Isn't the internet wonderful? You never have to worry about showing your real cards...

That is probably one of the funniest things I've read recently. I have no idea what you mean, but it's funny nontheless.

Why do you think this guy merited the midnight dynamic entry? Because he beat someone up? Support your argument rather than spewing gibberish about "playing badass" and "showing my real cards" (whatever that means).
