The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Posted on 12/01/2006 12:55:15 PM PST by ecurbh

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

It's an interesting one. I've always heard that the Pacific NW has the 'flattest' english in terms of accent and idiom. I don't know if that's actually true, but it seems to be.

This hits a little on accent and mostly on idiom. A more thorough test would be interesting.

Hey! I used the word 'idiom' in a sentence! Twice even!

Hey - I took this picture today. I think these are seagulls. They looked like seagulls in person, and I think they still do in the picture. They don't look like ducks or geese.

So since when do seagulls fly in V formation?

I don't think those are seagulls. I don't know if I'm an expert on seagulls, but I have seen alot of them. I've never seen seagulls fly in a V formation either.

The wings look too long for seagulls, but they're not long like an albatross, and albatross don't fly in formation either. Besides, I just wanted to say "albatross!".

I'm pretty sure they're not penquins.

Must be some sort of duck or goose.

This one is apropos after my day today.

You May Be a Bit Schizotypal...
A bit odd and socially isolated.
You couldn't care less of what others think.
And some of your beliefs are a little weird.
Like that time you thought you were Jesus.
What Personality Disorder Are You?

*sigh*

I bet he'd enjoy it because he would understand more of what's being said and sung than he did last year.

I've seen a lot of seagulls too. These looked like something that fits the broad category of gull or tern... a large, grey and white salt water coastal bird.

That's the thing... Marine coastal birds aren't migratory. The V-formation thing is a migrating habit.

Like when the swallows are carryin' coconuts from the tropical regions suspended with a bit of string... the African swallows, mind you, not the European swallows.
