The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

That's the holiday spirit, Corin! Maybe you need some nice egg-nog before you go. ;o)

Those are great! We're going to do a cookie swap with the other homeschooling families the kids have been friends with the last few years. Joseph really wants to do some thumbprint cookies, so he's going to do some with a raspberry filling and add a little bit of Chambord liquer. I saw Emeril doing them on a Food network Holiday Cookies special one night. I'm going to do some Mincemeat Crumb Bars. We're bringing a dozen cookies for each family, and another dozen to share at the party. So we'll come home with three dozen cookies that I didn't have to bake!

ROTFL! Did the school ever brag that he taught there?

I was *gonna* leave early, if my boss hadn't picked today to chat about the fact that he homeschools his kids and wanted to know how my experiences had been. He's a really nice guy though. He is going to let me be a little flexible with my work hours for the next month or so. Talon found out today his project has 6 am meetings scheduled... daily... so we will be getting up at undignified hours. I'm going to head in early, take overlong puppy lunches, and then leave a bit early.

It's nice that your boss is letting you have some flexibility in your hours. Makes things MUCH less stressful!

Well, it's a programming/engineering place, things are fairly flexible. And I'm gonna make sure to be there pretty standard hours... like get in at 6, take lunch from 11 to 12:30, then work til 3:30 or 4.

Corin, I'm amazed.

This person seems barely literate! He was actually teaching???

I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. Steve was actually impressed even!

My party starts at 6:30pm, so I have about an hour. But Steve has already taken the boys and left. Who knows where...an adventure.

That peppermint barks sounds dee-lish!

I love peppermint ice cream with chocolate syrup. It always seems like such a "Christmas-y" thing to eat!

You know...I like to study that picture every time you put post it. Look at all them people! What are they up to, clapping and looking so happy!?

That man in the upper right hand corner looks like he may blow a gasket any minute.

Anyway...I don't know the story behind it, but it always makes me stop and study it! LOL

We're fixing to head out to Festival Choir rehearsal. I'm pleased because I finally learned, and memorized, the alto part on a Latin piece we're singing, "Rorate Caeli". I found a recording online, SirKit burned it to a CD, and I listened to it several times this afternoon. We're gonna take it tonight so the choir can hear what the hymn sounds like with all the parts together.

I sing alto!

Not very well, because I never had any training. The closest I ever got was my youth choir director at my church, but I got in a fight with him.

I bet a Latin hymn in alto would be really lovely.

I wonder if Matthew would be interested in going to the Midnight Mass again this year...

That's okay--the snow is almost gone!! OB washed the *evil* SUV on Sunday, he could have washed it for free again today because of the mist yesterday, BUT, he didn't make it home until "just" now, and the guarantee expired at 6:00

I got the life of Riley...whoever that is.

Mirroring trends established during the postwar economic boom, the Riley family lived comfortably, though not lavishly, aided--and sometimes baffled--by many of the latest household consumer gadgets.
