The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

And you can probably set the music as you ring, right?

It's not that simple on this phone...guess ringtones are stored in a different place. And technically, you aren't supposed to be able to use anything longer than 30 seconds or above a certain quality.

I found a program on-line that lets me break the rules, though... And lets me copy stuff to it more directly than I can using Verizon's software. I bad. Oh well.

It does let you put an image for each caller, so I went through and did that for all family members. Totally useless, but kinda fun. Also have things like "Concerning Hobbits" as my ringtone for if Hair and Ecurb call. Kinda fun.

Now it's playing Great Big Sea. Kewlness.

You should absolutely see it. It really is the best animated Disney film I've seen in a long time.

Joshua soooo happy...

I sure wish I could find a *good* yogurt maker...we like yogurt so much, but I get tired of putzing with those tiny glasses.

I want a "Ronco Vat-o-Yogurt" or something, you know? LOL!

Well, if it makes you feel any better, we had our tv for at least 10 years before a storm took it out. Then my sister gave me hers because it wasn't working. $60 later and it's a great one. Just a regular 27" but it's fine. Course she got a big flat screen, but I get to stay home with my kids...most of the time that's a good thing.

I told G'nad that it was time for him to stay home and me go to work because my Social Security statement says I do not yet qualify for SS...or Medicare. Ouch! I need to be a productive member of society.

I bought the Cars movie, Over the Hedge, and another movie for $20 yesterday. Blockbuster has a deal where you bring in your on-line rental to trade it in for a store rental, and while you're there, you can get 3 for $20.

It's a beautiful day...we're getting ready to clean out the coop.

In other news, thegirl won a spelling bee and will compete in Springfield at the end of March. She's 11 and it's for kids up to 8th grade but no older than 16. (though I don't see how you could be smart enough to be in a spelling be if you still in the 8th grade at 16)

My only real gripe with my current tv is it doesn't have captions. The captions have to be set with the remote and that remote has been lost for many a year now. If I stumble on one cheap, I may buy it just to access the captions!

The DVD player has captions though...so I can at least have the captioning when watching a movie.

Yes! We have the same Blockbuster deal...I've seen those movies for sale too. I think you can buy them online too. Not sure, though...

If you're going to be poofing dried chicken manure up into the air, be sure you wear something over your face, like a bandana or something...that dust carries some kind of bacteria, if I recall currectly. At least stay upwind as much as possible (that's all I really did...heh!)

Congrats to thegirl!!

Ugh. I've had such a stressful day... mostly other people lurking while I try programming, that sort of thing. I went to have lunch with Talon and now I have a much better attitude. Let's see about that stuff I've been putting off forever...

I have one of these. It's only a quart, but with only the two of us in the house, more than a quart at a time is just wasteful.

Which reminds me. I need to make yogurt. I've kinda been craving it lately.

Heh, ain't technology grand? The nice part is, you don't HAVE to spend $3K to get a nice quality TV, even a flat screen LCD. The Internet is your friend. ;o)

That was something we splurged on a couple of years ago, as a family Christmas present. We found a great 37" LCD, and we love it because we like to watch movies; it's great family time for us.

That's GREAT, 2J! Joshua must have been thrilled to get the letter AND the night light!! So does he want to help at the booth? Talk about an opportunity for 'socialization'! HAH!

That's the one I'm leaning toward...if I can find one, I'll get it. eSalton has the best online price so far.

Salton is a good brand name.

A quart of yogurt a day would be perfect...

I haven't seen Cars, but the kids did, and loved it. It was even nominated for an Academy Award, however, apparently following in their 'green' theme this year, the Academy gave the Oscar for Best Animated film to Happy Feet.

Isn't it cool! And yes, by all means I intend to take him to work at the booth! After he ran down the street passing out candy at that parade with my VW club that time, I owe him big time! Heh heh!!

That yogurt maker looks pretty good! I've started buying low-fat organic yogurt at Trader Joe's and it is fairly inexpensive. It's about $.50 cheaper than the regular Stop and Shop store brand, which is NOT organic, and almost $1 less than Stonyfield.

I might get one of these because when we move to MS, there won't be a Trader Joe's there, so I'll be looking for a good source of organic yogurt that's not so expensive. The Stonyfield, and even the Trader Joe's, to some extent, has a bit of a bite to it that I don't much care for, anyway. It sounds from the reviews that the homemade yogurt doesn't have that tang, so I might like it even better. And I could make my own homemade FROZEN yogurt, YUM!

Coop is done...haveta remember the bandana trick next time...upwind never seems upwind enough!

Blockbuster has the 2 for $20 on a sign in their window, but the new thing is 3 for $20 if you have the online service.

The next household appliance I'm going to get is a big, commercial-grade ice cream maker. I have a little one - makes one quart at a time and you have to freeze the bowl. In the long run this is good because it controls how much ice cream I can make (and Big'ol Freeper can eat) at one time. That and the fancy ones I have my eye on all cost a pretty penny. Heh.

To: Overtaxed

It was just reported on the radio that one of our local weather weenies has advised people to sleep in the basement because of the severity of the storm coming in. Wouldn't you think after a while he/she would get embarrassed about the 'over the top' predictions?
