Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
You do and you'll clean it up.
Hey, dude... its not *my* bantha. [smiling sweetly]
Nerd Depot...sweeeet.
Heh...I do know what you mean.
When I first started using these dusters, though...they would get so filthy that within minutes I was just moving the dust around. I wasn't too impressed but I really was expecting a bit much from them. That's when I decided to launder the pads...figured nothing ventured nothing gained you know...
So, I'd dust dust dust, toss it in the wash, I didn't worry about actually getting it completely dusted. I bought some more pads (I think I have six total now) and I just rotate through them. Now, I've noticed that the pads last longer between having to wash them and my house appears less dusty!! (And it's a real problem, especially in the winter. I think the gas heat must have something to do with it.)
I've taken to dusting the TV in the morning when I'm setting up the VCR for school. Just real quick...15 seconds or so...I spray the pad with the spray and then whisk over the front, top and sides of the TV real quick. That's the area that gets dusty the most and I've kept up with it now for weeks and it's been EASY!
I keep the duster right there...so it's convenient.
I'll tell ya what NOT to get...a suction canister vacuum cleaner. What a PTA. Our old red Dirt Devil which did so good for 12 years died a couple of weeks ago and I got an EnVision. It's AWFUL. It gets clogged up with dust and once it does, it looses suction. Then you have to clean the canister, a filter basket, a foam rubber filter and a paper filter. Dust gets all over EVERYTHING, puffs up in the air, gets up my nose, all over my hands, on my clothes. I take it outside to clean it so maybe the wind will blow it off if I'm lucky.
It does a good job if you keep up with this but it's messy. I'll endure it for now, but will get another one some day...
Good Morning All - Although one would not know it now, it's supposed to warm up next week - 50 degree plus. Yessss. Nuther couple of inches of snow yesterday but the wind was kicking it around, 50.4 MPH NW. Business across the street has his new flag up. The old had a rough winter, torn and tattered but a brand new Old Glory is waving proudly this morning.
Kinda hard to catagorize this story but it might be filed under - sometimes one should call the professionals for assistance or you don't have to do everything yourself. You know we still have a lot of ice here, it is spotty, some areas being clear while others are like a skating ring. A woman who lives a couple of blocks from us slipped on the ice in her driveway and took a bad fall. Her husband saw it and wanted to help, it turns out she had broke her femur in three places. He proceeded to load her up in his SUV to take her to ER. I can't imagine how it was accomplished without a great deal of 'discomfort' for her. He then pulls directly out into traffic on a four lane street and is immediately hit broadside. At this point, 911 was called and they were there in a couple of minutes and proceeded to unload the woman and now the husband and transport them both to the ER. She's in a leg cast and he was bruised up and both are home. Folks, the firestation is only 4 blocks away. Moral of the story, sometimes it's best to call 911 before a bad situation goes fubar.
Yikes! What a story. With all of us having cell phones, we've talked about ditching our land line, except for the need for 911.
A friend was telling us just the other night that when her daughter was in 1st grade (she's 14 now), the daughter broke her leg at school. School called the mom and said "would you like to come get her?"
Mom said "NO [you idiots] call 911 and I'll meet them at the hospital." The school couldn't process why it was stupid to think Mom should try to transport a kid with a broken leg. Not to mention that it would take twice the time.
Well, we transported me to the hospital the two times I broke my arm, but (1) I was still mobile, it was an arm. and (2) it wasn't icy out.
Sounds like a bad deal for those folks - now they're both laid up. Aw geeze!
Good morning everyone! We' going to overseed grass seed today in the front... I have declared it to be spring.
Well, it wouldn't be unheard of for us to have another cold snap still, that's why it's a risk to do this now. But this week it's been rainy and in the 50's by day... mid 40s at night... Almost warm enough to germinate seed.
Heh, and their car needs to go to the doc too.
Wonder if mine is worth overseeding considering there isn't much soil. Though...seed is relatively cheap. Probably worth a shot.
I also have a lot more bulbs coming up than I thought I would. Guess Cisco didn't kill as many as I thought he did...though they aren't coming up in nice orderly rows anymore. :-\
I think yours seems pretty full but it wouldn't hurt to fill in bar patches... ours gets very worn down all winter. The whole thing is a bare patch.
The school had probably called 911 once previously and got yelled at for doing so by the parent - you know the "my child, my decision etc." and didn't want to pay for the ambulance.
Hair - my folks did the same thing when I broke my arm as a young 'un, 'course we didn't have 911 or paramedics at the firehouse in those days.
When spring does arrive, we have lots of daylilies to split and transplant. Several raised beds need more dirt and compost.
Yup, though we don't recall hearing where it was towed. We'll check out the local body shop parking lot when take Gypsygirl on her afternoon walk.
Now that I think about it, we went to the doctor's office. He pronounced it broken (which I was pretty sure was the case), set it and put on a plaster cast. Third grade time frame, guess I was 8 or so. Heh, the doctor's office was on the second floor of an office building in my hometown.
Yup, and I wondered if the leg was broken in three places when he put her in the car, or if it continued breaking when she fell off the seat after he was broad-sided. Ouch! LSA
The nayber lady's car was not in her driveway when I got home yesterday. She's in her 70's and doesn't get around walking-wise all that well. I was kinda worried that she might fall on the ice and break something. Later on in the evening her car was in the driveway with her friend's SUV parked behind it so I guess she got in without any falls or breaks.
We went to the doctor's office too... for one... it was so near my shoulder and just cracked, not in two pieces, so I only wore a sling... no way to cast it.
Second one, both my forearm bones were broken clean through, and we went straight to the ER. I remember how my arm went down about half way and then curved off at about a 30 degree angle. I remember getting mad because we had wrapped it in the shirt my friend was wearing, and tied it to my body with one of my reins from the horse. It felt pretty good. Very secure and immobile. But the nurse... this is the admitting nurse mind you... not an ER nurse, wanted to see it "to make sure it's broken. "I said (and my parents said) "trust me! It bends where it shouldn't! It's broken!" It was excruciating to have her untie it and move it around just to say - "Yeah - looks broken!" and then I had to sit and wait, with it a lot less supported than it was, for a really long time.
Ouch! He will be sleeping on the couch for a while I think.
