We lost power from 10pm-2am. Heard some noises in the night and can see now that it was trees breaking...will send the camera out with G'nad when he comes back. He's out checking the road for downed trees. We have neighbors (the kids piano teacher and husband) coming over tonight for Chinese food. We're celebrating the end of our study of China and are having Cashew Chicken, egg rolls, gyoza, G'nad's special stir fry, egg drop soup, and green tea. Should be a fun evening (maybe even as much fun as Corin had last night).

There's a loud and nasty thunderstorm sitting over Austin that woke me up at 8:15am or so. The general line of thunderstorms is moving northeast, but this sucker keeps redeveloping in place, over Austin.
Temperatures have dropped ~28 degrees in the last 3.5 hours, from 68 degrees at 4am to 40 degrees as I type. Nearly 5 inches of rain has fallen in the last 24 hours in parts of town, and we have flash flooding warnings up.
It's supposed to rain all day today and tonight, and then freeze Sunday ...

We have road scraper trucks cruising up and down the street...dropping salt, I guess, and waiting for the next round.
Well, okay...maybe not dropping salt. They're driving too fast for that.
Meanwhile, the Austin Fire Department is executing a swift-water rescue in South Austin ...
It says "overcast" but the sun is shinin' through the trees.
Radio here reporting that emergency services have had to perform eight high-water rescues since 4:00 am this morning.
