The Hobbit Hole XXXII - Sweet is the sound of falling rain
The Freeper Hobbit Hole Blog ^ | December 1, 2006

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

What was all that yelling over behind your place a few minutes ago?

We went out to see who was parked by our horse trailer, and it was your landlord, but while we were out there, we could here a ruckus.

Jeepers... we just went out to move the trucks into the parking lot, and saw lots of cops at the store. Evidently there was an attempted robbery, and one of the clerks got maced.

Yeeps! Is Rosie OK? Did she and the critters sleep through it?

We think Rosie's OK :~)

We don't think her compound was breached! It was a real armed robbery next door at the store... The clerk was cheeky, she looked right at them, thought the guns weren't real, said "You ain't gonna rob me with bb guns", and picked up the phone and called 911! I think the two guys were dumbfounded, they didn't expect that! They maced her, I guess, and ran out. They've already been caught, only a couple miles away.

We just came in from sitting in the truck a couple hours, on top of everything else, it was real gusty earlier so we went and got out from under these trees again - this time we actually lost a tree, though not a real big one :~) Project for in the morning! Now we need bed.

I heard a lot of yelling last night, but I thought it was just someone quarreling...eek.

That's scary. Which of the clerks was it? Is she OK?

Who were the robbers - locals?

The yelling ~was~ just someone quarreling, the ruckus behind your place was a completely different thing than the robbery. (it was a busy night!)

It was Cat - Kat? She's fine.

Robbers... unknown, two thugs she said.

I'm actually only up a few minutes, fed the ponies some breakfast. I'm goin' back to bed.

Hah! Holey Smokes!

That's brave of her... and yah know, if more people did that sort of noncompliance it'd get pretty durn frustrating to be in the robbery bidness.

That advice that we've all always heard to just go along with whatever the criminal wanted... I think that's been just wrong, wrong, wrong. If more people fight back even a little then yah gotta wonder if it wouldn't do more to quash the crime rate than anything else.

What to do...what to do...

There's always cleaning and laundry. I could get started on some painting projects or planning the garden...

The danger part is that they weren't BB guns, they were real sawed off shotguns and one had a handgun.

Mrs. worked as a cashier during college. A guy pulled a knife on her. She just looked at him and said "I'm sorry, you'll have to see the manager about that."

In other news...this is just wrong...

Indeed. We didn't hear anything, she's often joked that she would just whistle for me if she was in trouble, but we didn't know about this. We only found out because when the wind was kicking up we moved the trucks out, and there was a medic van there spraying her head down for the mace. And lots of cops.... they all had come without sirens.

*snicker*

Teddy Kennedy and Osama

After numerous rounds of "We don't know if Osama is still alive," Osama himself decided to send Ted Kennedy a note in his own handwriting to let him know he was still in the game.

Kennedy opened the note, which appeared to contain a single line of coded message:

370HSSV-0773H.

Kennedy was baffled, so he E-mailed it to John Kerry. Kerry and his aides had no clue either, so they sent it to the FBI.No one could solve it at the FBI, so it went to the CIA, then to the NSA.With no clue as to its meaning, the FBI finally asked Marine Corps Intelligence for help.

Within a few seconds, the Marines called back with this reply:

"Tell Kennedy he is holding the message upside down."
