Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
It was a pretty nice party. Our division out here in C.R. only has about fifty people and we all work together pretty closely, so it wasn't one of those awkward things where you eat some bad food and get a stiff speech from some vice president. It was good for me getting to know some people. And pretty much everyone there is an engineer or software person. It was funny to get the wives who assumed that I was a spouse and Talon was the employee :-) heehee.
The plan is to set up another raised bed for the summer...maybe dig some leaves into beds if my back feels up to it.
Talon went to work. I am going Christmas shopping. I need to make a list. Wonder what you get a three month old baby anyway.
These folks were ranchers and the shop was a jewelry shop. I am such a sucker for Zuni inlay. But I kept control and bought a beautiful, simple turquoise pendant for my Mom.
Ok. Bank, bookstore, toy story, sewing store, grocery store... probably forgetting something. And then I get to come home and do more chores.
*drums fingers on desk*
BOTH of y'all should have gotten mail from me by now. Dang Postal Service.
I've put this off far too long. Christmas lights ~must~ go up outside today. Neighborhood Christmas walk is tonight...
later
Slacker.
*snork*
That said, we were weeks behind our neighborhood. The households with 6-yr old boys had theirs up and lit before Thanksgiving.
Christmas decorations. Bah, humbug!
Well, acutally, I'm not going to be here Christmas. If I have Christmas lights on for weeks and suddenly they're off around Christmas, everybody's going to know I'm not home.
I could put a wreath on the door, but I don't have any evergreens in my yard to make anything.
I had intended to put stuff up right after Thanksgiving. Actually, the ~first~ plan was to put up the outdoor stuff on Veteran's Day and just leave it unlit until December.
I told the Missus this week that, if it wasn't for Luke, I'd slap a wreath on the door and be done with it - inside and out.
I am sooooo not in the mood for all the Christmas frap this year.
Nada.
Mail came early even...but only got a card saying time was running out to claim the car I "might" have won.
I didn't like the changes made to the stories by whoever wrote the screenplays for PBS. The tales are really rich, and a lot of that was lost in those video adaptations.
I've got the lights on the ficus, but it's not visible from the street. I could decorate a grapevine wreath...if I had some evergreen. 'Course I could always go out and buy some cheap green plastic crap.
Dang, I wish they had the listen feature on that CD. It sounds like something I might like. I'm listening to the Windham Hill "Carols for Christmas" while I'm eating my bagel. I'm fixing to head over to Boston to pick Clare up. She's flying in for semester break, and will be here for almost a month!
Look for a soft toy with some sort of rattle or bell inside, that the baby can grasp, shake and chew to his little heart's content. Make sure it's nice and soft because the baby WILL whack himself with it from time to time. Our kids LOVED those types of toys, and would just hold them, looking at them in wonder.
For some reason, Windows Media Player doesn't want to play the dang thing. Oh well, I'll try it when I get back.
Well that was awful. I had to buy gifts for five people and I'd hoped to do it in three stops. Nope. Seven stops. But everyone I had to buy for, was bought for.
I feel really lousy though. My eyes are all glazed over and itchy. And I have to clean, fold laundry, and bake cookies this afternoon because my grandparents are coming tomorrow.
