Sundance picks Seattle film on horse-sex case

The Sundance Film Festival announced Wednesday that Seattle filmmaker Robinson Devor's documentary "Zoo" has been accepted into the 2007 festival's documentary competition. The film examines the widely reported case of an Enumclaw man who died in 2005 after having sex with a horse.

"Zoo" is one of 16 documentaries selected for competition (out of 856 submitted), all of which will screen as world premieres. Devor has had two previous films at Sundance: the made-in-Seattle drama "Police Beat," and "The Woman Chaser."

The Sundance Film Festival will take place Jan. 18-28 in Park City, Utah.

Good grief!

The red state folks in Utah can't be too happy about this one.

This reminds me of life imitating art. There was a SouthPark episode a few years ago in which the Hollywood crowd descended upon SouthPark for a film festival. In the end, the people of SouthPark were relieved when the Hollywood freaks finally abandoned the town since SouthPark was knee deep in raw sewage. Given the choice between raw sewage and Hollywood values, raw sewage tends to be much cleaner (as the message of the SouthPark 'toon implied.)

How soon till MTV's real world has a "beasty" cast member or does a story of the bravery of a "beasty" who takes his dog to prom? We should all stop being so close minded beastiphobes...

What did he die of, Mal de Mare?

And aren't some subjects simply too shocking to be considered off-limits?

Is the Sundance festival liberal and open-minded?

Would they have a film which cast the Ku Klux Klan, or any Republican politician, in a positive light?

I just wonder what kinds of standards Sundance has. This film may have outstanding cinematography, but , are we to be completely non-judgemental about the subject matter?

Would Sundance have something showing the positive contributions that faith in God has had on people's lives?

Does anybody know what if any standard these people have for consideration of films for their awards?

It was reported as an auto accident...a Mustang rammed into him from behind.

I don't see why it's so bad watching a documentary on the event. It was a really strange event that really happened, why not make a doc about it?

Uhh, it's a DOCUMENTARY. It ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Are we just suppose to ignore it and pretend it never happened?

Because you can watch the same thing online, as long as you're over 18 and have a valid credit card.

Can you briefly explain how exactly he died? (in the least graphic way possible) I've never heard of this case before.

Since leftist ideology rests on moral relativity, this film presents an interesting conundrum for the country. It there is no standard of decency beyond the relative, is beastiality to be accepted along with homosexuality, and everything in between? Are there no limits?

Anyway, the owners of the ranch evidently filmed all the sex for the customers, and the sex with the horse was available on the internet, on one of those sites where people can post videos.

He was 'catching', and died of internal injuries.

More likely he was "pitching" and got kicked to death. A friend of mine years ago was a newspaper reporter on the police beat. A story came in about a guy kicked to death in a horse stall. The police were very just-the-facts about it until my friend asked, "Did he have his pants on?" The cop looked annoyed, then admitted that he did not. Like autoerotic asphyxiation, this goes on more than gets reported.

Wow-I think #3 was the first time in 8 years I had a comment removed.

Not sure why a humorous play on the "Log-Cabin Republicans" name and the "Heather had two mommies book" to fit this thread would cause a removal.

Nope. You can Google it...Although I recommend googling "Enumclaw" rather than "horse sex death".
