I have seen the ads yesterday and now today! One is two gay men and the other is two lesbian women. This is a car ad folks and it is nothing more than a car for for gays and lesbians! I'm totally disgusted and goin to tell Lexus I will not ever buy any of their products!
Disgusting!

so did the "openly gay commercial" give you "funny feelings" Not so much; I don't partake in the Turkish Vice....
Why all the hostility?

You used the word HINEY!
We may need to do an intervention!

I'm safe. But now I wonder about my neighbor across the street. He drives a Porshe Caymen, best car for a gay professional?
To: Halls
I never pay too much attention to ads, but I do recall seeing some sort of car ad the other day with two men in it and wondered if it was a gay couple. Can you say "agenda"? Geesh.
The other disturbing trend is ads with divorced couples shuffling their children between them.

Why not? They put a boob in the halftime show of a superbowl.

I don't think I'm either a naif or a bumpkin. It would be counterproductive for them to market to gays in a general venue - I would expect ads specifically aimed at gays in a gay publication or on shows that draw a large gay audience. Judging from the number of freepers who have seen the ads, these are on general interest shows. In any case, it is obvious to many of us that these ads are about two neighbors, each of whom thinks they are getting the car from his or her spouse. Lexus may be marketing to gays, but as far as I can see it's not with these ads.

I guess I must be gay because I love Lexus styling.

I'm not calling for a boycott. I don't really care....
You don't have to be straight to appreciate this beauty:
Then why make commercials targeted at the gay community? It's wierd....

Advertising is a funny thing. Very rarely does an actual adult target audience make up the majority of sales. The best way to get gays is to simply market that you are targeting them. The perception is that by doing so, you are somehow legitimizing their 'cause'. It makes them feel special and substantiated. Advertising is more about psychology and perception than anything else.
That said, I hate the ad biz. My degree is in Advertising and I find it extremely dishonest and cut throat. Totally not me.

Then again, many people think "pipe smokers" are gay.

It seemed very apparent to me that the people in the ads were neighbors unsure of which spouse gave them the car as a present.
Yep.
Jeez, this thread is really embarrassing for Freepers as a whole. Shame on you, Halls.

It's just coincidence I guess that the marketing directer said he was targeting gays in a general venue....

Maybe he was targeting two populations,,women and gays. Women like gay stuff,,designers, hairdressers, decorators, flower arrangers. THeir taste is often ours.

Then again, many people think "pipe smokers" are gay. At least I'm not in the Air Force--that would give it away for sure!

Better to buy a Toyota.........Lexus = Toyota + $10,000
To: Halls
I am not gay (not that there is anything wrong with that)and I dont play a gay man on TV, but,.....
I do like the Lexus line.
The only thing that prevents me from buying one is the little thing called the cost. :~)
