No apology to pit bull owners..but the entire breed needs to be euthanized.

My 14 year old Jack Russell died of cancer two months ago.
My wife and I miss the rambunctious but oh so gentle little scamp.

So many neighbors (probably including the dead boy's parents) had previously seen unfenced, unleashed pit bulls wandering around the mobile home park where children play outside, and did nothing about it.The dogs were reported to the park office a few days previous to this incident.
What happened after that, I don't know.
Harris County field officers impounded more than 7000 stray dogs last year.

"Also, dogs can see things about people that we don't see with the naked eye."
I definitly believe that. I've been afraid of dogs for most of my life. And it seems as though they know it and come straight for me! Since I started doing a lot walking outside a few years ago, I purchased a pepper spray to carry so that I feel more protected.
If I hear one more person tell me their dog won't hurt me I think I'll bite them! They don't realize that means nothing to me. Also I don't believe people can really know their dog wouldn't hurt someone. It could be an inbred trait as in the pit bulls that one day surfaces for whatever reason. I'm a little biased because of my fear but I'm especially terrified of pit bulls and rotweillers. German Sheperds can get nasty too but I've met some good ones. Nuf said.

I have had four dogs in the last 20 years who got out of the yard and bit someone. Even though I love my pets, every one of those dogs made a final trip to the vet for euthanasia. Oh....two were basset hounds, one retriever, and one mutt; no pit bulls around my kids.

I'm sorry you lost your Jack. They are such wonderful doggies with the biggest spirit. Here's a link to my
Polk and another of
Lincoln and Polk together. They are sisters, 5 and 6 years old.

"but some chicken shit bastard willfully destroyed another's property anyway."
Well, I shot and killed one of my neighbors agressive Rottweilers after it attacked my dog and threatened my children.
Dogs that are vicious come are last on my list of things to be protected. My children come first
Did I willfully destroy his property? You bet. And I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Were you inside the fenced yard containing the neighbors's dogs when you shot them?
If yes, you should not have been inside their fence.
If no, and they were not fenced and were a threat then you did the right thing.
I have no problem shooting a dog that is a threat. Throwing poisoned food over a fence makes one a chicken shit bastard. One that I would consider a threat. Goblins have been known to poison watch dogs to set up a home invasion.

Well then, we understand each other. And agree ;>)
No, If the owner had fed/kept the dog on his property, there would not have been any problem.
He was warned several times that the dog had been over at my place displaying agressive tendencies, but chose never to do anything about it.
Unfortunately, he was not much smarter than the dog, and totally irresponsible.
We also have lots of strays out here that were dumped as puppies by assholes that are too cheap to get their dogs spayed. Unfortunately, sometimes these dogs start running in packs, and THEY can be pretty dangerous too.

I live near Fort Hood, Texas and whenever there is a deployment a lot of quality pets are dumped. We have probably had twenty or twenty five different breeds that chose our place to call home over the past twenty five years.
As long as they behave themselves and get along with the other dogs they have food and medical care furnished. I have had to get rid of only five over that time.
We are down to six dogs ranging from a toy poodle to a Doberman mix. Yes, all were strays or castoffs. The poodle was down to a pound and a half and you could feel every bone in the dog's body. He still outran my 15 year old grandson when we tried to catch him. He and one of our other small dogs now have 37 states to their credit and are motel and elevator trained.
I had a Pit Bull mix for a short time and was extremely concerned about the animal. He disappeared about the time I was going to make a decision about keeping him. I expect some of my red neck neighbors picked him up.
I do not trust the breed/type: too many stories and too much smoke to not have a fire.
BTW I have had five Doberman and all of them have been pussy cats but people will not get out of their vehicles when they are greeted by the gaping mouth. (I live in the country and have to furnish my own protection. Yes, I have big iron close at hand if the big mouth doesn't work.)
I also watch my dogs reactions to people to make my initial impression of them. They have pretty well defined the character of the people. I am extremely suspicious of people that do not like dogs.

"You'd kill one of your co-workers?" No. A trained "working" bomb or narcotics dog would be the exception.
IMHO John Q. Average Dog Owner is incapable of understanding how to handle the pit bull responsibly. This has been proven over and over again.

Anti-freeze works wonders.It sure does.
If one has a peach tree in the front yard and people keep trespassing and snatching the fruit inject the easy to reach ones with poison.
Theft will stop before too long.
I am right there on y'all's wavelength!

I agree, you said it very succintly. Some people have absolutely no business with certain breeds.
Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving Holiday.
