The events of yesterday may be a blessing in disguise for those of us who react with absolute horror to the very thought of a Democrat President in 2008.
Most likely the Democrat nominee is going to be Hillary, and like her husband before her, the only way she could win the Presidency is if there were a conservative stalking horse like Ross Perot to split the conservative vote.
We all know what an egomaniac John McCain is. If he does not get the nomination in 2008, there is no doubt in my mind that he will strike a secret deal with the Clintons and run a third-party candidacy, which will deliver the Presidency to Bill/Hill LLC.
I have resigned myself to McCain as the 2008 nominee.
It is either that, or resign myself to another 8 years of the Clintons.
Buchanan conservative ?
Thanks, Cecily. We'll eventually get through to the RNC. We just have to hang tough and stick to our principles. It's not for the faint of heart!
Really? Like what?
Follow the $$$$$$$ and see which candidates who received RNC support won. Then look at who received zero help. Who controlled the Republican purse?
The two main functions of the modern president are national defense and running the multi-trillion dollar income transfer machine. Have we forgotten that he campaigned for high tax rates? He'd be a domestic policy disaster.
I saw him several times on TV last night and I think you're right -- and I think he knows it.
Whether or not he's politically dead or not, he's well on the way to being physically dead. Have you seen him lately? He looks like a walking corpse.
I fear for my country right now and that fear only grows when I think about Hillary winning.
You're being ridiculous.
He does; he looked particularly bad last night; almost defeated.
McCain engineered the los by obstructing all conservative progress, and so you will support him as he intended?
I will not. I only regret he wasn't running this year so he could be toppled.
The votes he'd pull, though, would just as likely be demonrat leaning versus Republican.
Total agreement bump!
I believe that 2 years of having a liberal woman running the Congress of the United States, will dampen the willingness to put another, somewhat shrill woman in charge of the executive branch as well.
A lot of voters will cringe at putting too much of a liberal, female face at the top of the American government.
I think Pelosi's win hurts Hillary.
*************
I'm not so sure. He's kind of bullet-proof to the Left/MSM. Which means he has an advantage over the majority of possible candidates.
It's we conservatives who dislike him. I'd like to see Gingrich get a shot at it, but I question whether he could get any "moderate conservative" or crossover votes.
Yeah, only TRUE conservatives like.....um...JD Hayworth and Santorum and Allen and Talent......oops, they lost.
I wonder how he feels about fluoridated water...
I don't remember the title, but there was a whole thread blaming the Libertarians for the loss.
McCain is the darling of the DBM only because he takes contrary views to Bush and his party leadership. The minute McCain becomes the standard bearer for the GOP, he would become anathema to the DBM.
