The events of yesterday may be a blessing in disguise for those of us who react with absolute horror to the very thought of a Democrat President in 2008.
Most likely the Democrat nominee is going to be Hillary, and like her husband before her, the only way she could win the Presidency is if there were a conservative stalking horse like Ross Perot to split the conservative vote.
We all know what an egomaniac John McCain is. If he does not get the nomination in 2008, there is no doubt in my mind that he will strike a secret deal with the Clintons and run a third-party candidacy, which will deliver the Presidency to Bill/Hill LLC.
I have resigned myself to McCain as the 2008 nominee.
It is either that, or resign myself to another 8 years of the Clintons.
On the most important issues Guiliani is conservative, taxes, war, crime, immigration, terrorism, etc.
He's liberal on social issues, which a POTUS doesn't really have control over, they are state issues and supreme court issues, I'm sure Guiliani, if POTUS would nominate conservative judges/supreme court nominees.
Guiliani is not a RINO.
Did he ever stop campaigning from the last time?
Nope, he certainly didn't.
Sorry but no way in he!! will I vote for McCain....
They'll never be anyone like Reagan in our lifetime.
All the rangling here about not voting for McCain/Guliani/Romney....if in the next two years we are attacked again, I guarantee all the concerns about social issues will go out the window and people here will be clamering for one of these three simply to keep Hillary out.
Allen just took himself out so a conservative for 2008 looks like a reach.
McLame will not win the GOP nomination.
I didn't think "Brady Bill" Bob Dole would have won the GOP nomination either.
Dole didn't win it, GOP leadership pulled all funding from Kemp and trashed him. IF they do the same thing this time none of us are going to fall for it.

Don't say it can't happen. They've screwed us before and are fully capable of doing it again.
They need the message NOW that we won't put up with it. Give us a real conservative or cut your own throats.
I think taking a day or two to grieve after a major tragedy is acceptable, if not downright healthy.
You take a little time out, lick your wounds, look around a bit to get the lay of the land, then set off for battle once again.

McCain is not perfect--he did give us the horrible McCain-Feingold anti-free speech law (which Bush signed). But he's mostly conservative. He'd be better than any Democrat.
Given the campaign help McCain and Guliani provided to so many Republicans I think both will get a lot of gratitude support for the GOP nomination. Who else stumped around the nation urging voters to vote GOP? Bush & Chenney did, but neither will be running in 2008.
McCain has a lot of chits to call in. As of now, he looks like the front runner. Barring the emergence of some charismatic dark horse, McCain may well get the GOP nomination. If he does, he'd be worth supporting--especially when you consider the alternative.

I agree 100%. McCain would be very difficult for the democrats to beat. I don't agree with him about somethings, but he is strong on foreign policy.
The nomination is McCain's to lose. .
That's where you trust him and I don't. I'm sure he WON'T appoint socially conservative justices who would interpret the law, rather than create law. His social views are 180 degrees off from the Religious Right beliefs. And his own personal marriage records and some of his closest friends' criminal activity prove that he has a few character flaws.
