Just one question... (Vanity)

Watching in stunned amazement from the other side of the Pacific, trying to take in the electoral devastation meted out to the GOP, I have only one question (and my inquiry is genuine): How the hell was this allowed to happen?

The GOP didn't lead.

Right on.

I bought into the to Republican Revolution of 1994 - The Gingrich wave - the Contract with America. The Congressional Democrats had turned corrupt with power. The first few years it is looked good and then the power corrupted the Republicans and they turned into Democrats or Washington Republicrats

From the beginner I have always felt when you look to actions/results - there is not a dimes worth of difference between to Republicans and the Democrats. The Republican Revolution fizzle supports this point.

I was hoping Steele and Ehrlich might win to save Republican dignity - but does either party have any dignity?

Bush has gone mushy - I supported him but I really don't like the way he is handling the presidency anymore.

Republicans got what they deserved - Republicans were not robbed.

This should end the "Diebold is controlled by Republicans" claptrap.

The GOP simply wimped out and let the Democrats control the debate.

The GOP could have promised more tax cuts and boasted about the economy, but were not running on that.

They could have run commercials that demonstrated all that was good in Iraq, but they didn't.

The GOP leadership needs to retire, and we need a new breed in the likes of newt Gingrich.

Counter Insurgency is NOT Total War. Different Mission, different tactics, different problems. This inability of Americans to get out of their War Movie mindset of easy answers and painless victories is the cause of this simplistic nonsense about Iraq.

Yeah, no kidding. Tell that to the team in the White House. They took every path of least resistance they could get their hands on in Iraq, hoping that easy answers and painless victories would transmute into victory. Well, they didn't.

So, now we have a moderate sized conventional occupation force with no conventional enemy to fight, with a small counterterrorism force picking off terrorist leaders here and there. That's not counterinsurgency, no matter how you spin it. It's a conventional warfare pig with SOF lipstick on it.

It's staying the course, and hoping the Iraqis wake up one day and ask, "Can't we all just get along?"

Now, the forward momentum from 9/11 is gone. America is frustrated, and wants to go back to Dancing with the Stars. Our foreign policy is going to be neutered, and we're going to be stuck sitting on our hands until the next attack. That's the real damage that our mismanaged war has brought us.

It wasn't the Republicans who didn't vote who caused the loss. It could be much more reliably--but incompletely--attributed to independents sick of the war. But the bedrock reason for the loss was the conversion of the party of small government into Democrat Light. Angry conservatives are a symptom, not a cause.

Hopefully, his strategic mistakes will be remembered sepearately from his visionary ones, and not be repeated.

He made no strategic mistakes. Way past time people start considering the map of the ME and really think about where Iraq is. ALSO way past time for people to remember the situation prior to 2003. There was NO other Strategic choice but Iraq. We had the moral legal and political grounds to do Iraq. We had NO such justifications to go ANY where else after Afghanistan. "Bush Stategic Mistakes" is utter nonsense.

The American people waved the white flag on the war on radical Islam yesterday. The notion that the Always Complaining can some how save the war and still blame Bush for their inability to actually learn the facts about Iraq is sick fantasy. Iraq is not a mess. Iraq IS a war. And now on the verge of victory you all just handed the US defeat.

Counter Insurgency is as much political as Military. You all were so busy posturing as being cynical you lost all touch with being wise. This inability of Conservatives to actually stand up and be fore something without all the pseudo intellectual posturing, knee jerk cynicism and relentless hair splitting inanities is our fatal Achilles Heel. All our foes have to do is wait and the Always Whining will talk victory into defeat all the while patting themselves on the back about how smart they all are lecturing the professional on how to do a job they know next to nothing about.

It was this simple inability of Conservative Talking Heads to actually TALK truth on Iraq instead of always playing backseat driver that changed the perceptions on Iraq. Pretty hard to win a war when 40% of your squad spends all its time shooting it own leaders in the back.

Well you all shall now reap as you have sown.

Oh, were we supposed to sit in the back of the bus?

"Please don' beat me, massa! Ah be good."

Truth is, President Bush and the Republicans in general abandoned a number of conservative principles long ago, so finally conservatives spoke up with the truth of that abandonment and stood firm against that erosion of conservatism. But you look at that and call it an attack instead.

Sheesh, you'd better hope the Republican leadership doesn't buy into your crap logic, or they'll be in the minority for a long time to come.

That's because there's no IQ test required to pay taxes.

No problem. People with low IQ usually don't pay taxes.

I agree .. Please read my thought on WOLVES IN SHEEPS CLOTHING.

As an Evangelical Christian, we could no longer defend some of these Rep.we found they did'nt stand for what we believe. If they thought we were kidding when we said We Believe... they sure found out last night.

Let your yes be yes and your no be no.

WOLVES IN SHEEPS CLOTHING.

I have prayed about our loss. At first I was angry and then while I was praying, this came to my mind. What were you defending? I thought Christian values. I believe President Bush is an honorable, true Christian. I think where we went wrong was believing our party was supporting our same beliefs. Think about it, they essentially used the Christian vote but did nothing to support our cause. Where they really laughting at us? WE pushed the vote for the Marriage Amendment. While some of our Rep. climbed in bed literally with the other side. Rep. showed themselves to be less than moral. Even though I know we all sin, I believed we were deceived to believe they valued our vote. I think we were deceived that they even carred about Evangelicals. We had the votes, otherwise the Marriage Act would be doomed. What we didn't have is Evangelicals that would support corrupt and immoral Representatives. Thank God.

This verse is what I feel the Holy Spirit has called me to dwell on...please take into consideration.

JAMES 5

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. 2Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.[a] 6You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.

7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. 9Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
10Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

12Above all, my brothers, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.

My heart is sad, but I look to God and no one else for peace. I hope those who have clothed themselves in sheeps clothing will someday know what a true heart for God feels like. God Bless.

One vote was lost everytime a top Republican said, "Islam is a religion of peace", or "we need a comprehensive, compassionate immigration policy."

I think this is pretty accurate.

The appeasers witin the Republican party believed that if we played nice with the Democrats all would be well. Instead, our appeasement (especially with uncontrolled spending) was seen as a weakness and lack of honor and we got our butts kicked.

[Republicans and conservatives attacked our President and Commander in Chief during war time.

That is exactly how it happened and everyone here knows it. ]

Dream on. Conservatives are the ones who backed Bush most on the war, so your point is unfounded. Bush held his base in contempt, and he paid at the polls.

Yeah, let's get back to investigations. Where's that Rummy? Where's that Rove? Where's that "cooked intelligence"? Let's start a pool...what week will the first subpoena fly? The Dems just won't be able to help themselves. Now that THEY are in charge, they will need plenty of distractions from the "foreign policy debacles of the Bush Administration" and the "disaterous tax cuts which brought us this collapsing stock market and rising unemployment". ;-) Heh, heh, heh. They'll overplay their hand, they always do."

I'm waiting to hear the "plan" that they have for Iraq now that they are in charge. Waiting................ In fact, once they raise the minimum wage and fund stem cell research, they really don't have anything other ideas. I guess they will have to stay busy with hearings and investigations.

The sheeple were convinced the economy stank, we were losing the war, Democrats are of high moral character.

BS
The base was convinced that the GOP didn't do the job we put them in power to do.

No immigration reform, no comprehensive tax code reform, no smaller govt, no less spending, etc, etc, etc.

About the only thing they, finally, did listen to the base on was the Supreme Court nominations.

Don't forget engaging in bilateral talks with North Korea and Iran. What that really means is pay them tribute. Of course that lets China right off the hook and actually will take some of the financial burden off them to support Kim. We'll be helping to support him with all the carrots he demands. It also means lots of hollow tough talk from Democrats for the cameras.

Lessee.
The GOP spent like drunken Democrats.
They proposed "amnesty" for illegals rather than considering securing borders.
They "played nice" with the Democrats when they finally achieved power.
They fought a politically correct war that is beginning to look like it will never end.

In general, they looked and acted like so much Democrats (admittedly of an earlier age), that "undecideds" saw no point in voting for 'em - might as well vote for the real thing.
