Microsoft has announced a partnership with Novell and will help promote Linux.
This is stunning. This is like Red Sox fans announcing they're going to root for the Yankees.
Microsoft has spent ten years bashing the free-of-charge open-source Linux operating system and trying to kill it. Now Microsoft is making nice.

LOL
OTOH, it'd be relaxing tonight to have to deal with Iggle given the election returns...8^)
Oh damn, I definitely do now because I was right! Microsoft pays Novell $108 million for patents, while Novell pays Microsoft $40 million.
If you have any more lies
Nope, but I'm sure I'll have yet more truths coming your way.
Don't try to claim victory now, you already admitted it was a guess that you presented as a fact, one that your own link didn't even support. It just so happened to turn out to be correct, but in no way excuses you incorrectly claiming it as fact originally.
It wasn't a guess. It was based on different accounts of the deal, plus the plain common sense that in a deal like this companies don't just cross-license patents without money flowing. You lose on the facts, as usual. Here's you in #54:
You also have a problem with lying, as we saw you try to deny my claim that Microsoft is only paying for licenses...I do believe that's you making the claim that Microsoft was only paying for licenses. Yes, I did deny your false claim. I'm happy to correct yet another of your lies.
And if you're ever in Amsterdam, be sure to look up DVD Jon.
Burn..
BS, after I shot down your link you admitted in post 49 you were quote "wondering" outloud if there might be patent royalties. I clearly indicated from the beginning I didn't know for sure in post 36 when I said "that is not my understanding", unlike you who claimed it was a fact, posted a link that didn't back you up, then finally admitted you were "wondering" instead of actually knowing anything for sure.
No need to further discuss, liberals like you and conservatives like me just aren't going to get along, especially when the liberal comes out spouting things as fact he's actually "wondering" about.
I think you get it wrong. Sane people like me and troll ideologues like you aren't going to get along. And you are still incapable of admitting I was right.
I do wonder whether you'll keep spouting your "Linux infringes" mantra when you know that Microsoft is protecting Windows from its infringements -- which was my whole point before you went off on the irrelevant tangent of whether Microsoft paid for that protection.
I've never heard that one before.(can't argue either way for/against it) Can you back that up, that he was raised by commies?
^^^^^^^^^Then probably Jobs, since Gates has given thousands of dollars to Republican party offices all over the country^^^^^^^^^^^
Personally? Or via "the business", Microsoft?
Despite the monies, he's still a known lib.
If only it were easier to install......................
You don't know much about Linus Torvalds then.
Personally?
Yes, you really don't know much about these things, then do you. Maybe you're ready to reconsider that ridiculous tagline.
Actually, it really isn't that bad. It's kind of scary at first--especially when one is used to graphical installers...
^^^^^^^^^^^You don't know much about Linus Torvalds then.^^^^^^^^^^^
Sorry, I don't follow people's personal lives. It seems that those who usually do this end up using it for personal destruction purposes. From what I've seen, you fit that bill.
^^^^^^^^^^Yes, you really don't know much about these things, then do you.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
When did I ever proclaim to know everything? Can you point that out to me?
^^^^^^^^^Maybe you're ready to reconsider that ridiculous tagline.^^^^^^^^^^^
I've stated and proven my claims. Several times.
Yeah, call me used to graphical installers.
However, I have tried the slackware way of installing. I'm not afraid of it per se, call me lazy. :-D
There's no reason for installation to be overly dumbed down such as some have gone, but there's no need for the archaic either.
I don't know.
I didn't care for anaconda, liked Suse's YaST, and have finally got used to Slack's installer...
I like both anaconda and YaST, but there's nothing that says slack had to use either. I know there's other distros which have powerful GUI installers that I'm sure wouldn't mind lending to slack.
The philosophy with Slackware is to be as simple in design and stable as possible. Here, a text-based interface is relatively simple and it's been extremely stable.
The strive for simplicity and stability is also another reason why Slackware typically only ships with tried-and-true programs--and a 2.4.x kernel by default. (though a recent 2.6 kernel as well as other, more cutting-edge programs are included in /testing).
Also, IMHO, Slack's installer is probably more semi-GUI than a true text-based installer. Is it anaconda or YaST? No. Is it simple, stable, and effective? Yes.
Think Clinton was a great president probably too.
That's right. Put words into my posts.
You *do* work for the NY Times, don't you?
It looks like it's ncurses, but that's just a guess. I've always found Slack's installer quite easy to use and somewhat reminiscent of FreeBSD's.
