Haggard accuser Michael Jones, according to today's Rocky Mountain News, timed his revelations in order to influence voters in Tuesday's election:
"Jones said he had thought about revealing his alleged affair with Haggard months ago but was advised by his attorney that he needed to gather more evidence. He said he decided to come out with his story before the election to influence voters."

Was Haggard running for anything? Influence voters on what? I am pretty much a politics junky but I had never heard of Haggard before today.
Like...duh.
This only strengthens my resolve to vote for the amendment to protect marriage and against the initiative to grant same-sex "spouse" benefits and status.
Did they think that a story about gay sex and meth was going to make me more tolerant or less?
I think the Dems have been planning quite a while to have all these nasty allegations revealed that probably won't be born out, but that might very likely influence the elections. I think it's a Rahm project that has been in the works for some time.
Air America will probably hire him to become one of their "reporters".
Is the trying to influence voters in the election because Haggard is a minister and this guy thinks he can smear Christians and that will be the influence?
Wonder what other timed events we'll see in the next three days...
Ya gotta love Kerry's timing tho....
He's been touring the country with people like James Dobson, Chuck Colson, Ann Coulter, and a host of Republican politicos trying to get the "values voters" out on election day. Solid Republicans aren't going to be influenced by this, but there are likely some others, especially if they listened to and respected Haggard's messages before all this blew up in his face.
Not all conservatives are "broken glass" Republicans.
I must say, Kerry's timing was about perfect.
In the mid 1990s I was asked by a well known editor and writer if there was any known profession, other than politics, that Bill Clinton could have come from. My quick answer to him was evangelism.
I will not vote for Haggard on Tuesday. No way. I urge all freepers to withdraw electorsl support for this man. It's the only right thing to do.
I thought they were talking about the guy who wrote the song, "Okie From Muskogee."
Haggard has been an advocate for the marriage amendment (Amendment 43) that is on the ballot in Colorado.
The evangelical who is tormented by guilt and his own desires is a pretty old story. Happens again and again.
Had they been liberal, then being a closet homosexual would be a badge of honor, and any who looked sideways at them would be labeled a homophobe.
Let that be a lesson to all who choose to defy the state religion.
Rove the magnificent has arranged for the Saddam death sentence verdict to be read on Sunday...so we will get the last laugh for election day stories. Hang tight. Haggard won't matter, hanging Saddam will.
