I could care less if Falwell, Dobson or anyone else is a pervert, either. People must have extremely weak internal compasses if they would switch beliefs because one of their role models turns out to be (fill in the blank). Who cares? Right is right, it doesn't change with the wind.
The evangelical who is tormented by guilt and his own desires is a pretty old story. Happens again and again.

Rove the magnificent has arranged for the Saddam death sentence verdict to be read on Sunday...so we will get the last laugh for election day stories. Hang tight. Haggard won't matter, hanging Saddam will.

Yes, I agree with that completely. Put faith in man you will ALWAYS be disappointed.
My point however was simply regarding the impact of the news. Falwell, Dobson, Graham are folks seen as greater spokesmen for Protestant Christianity than this Haggard fellow who most Christians have never heard of. It's the difference between the Pope getting caught in a scandal and a parish priest somewhere in California.

True. And just because Haggard was against gay marriage does not make him a hypocrite. Why cannot he truly be against it and see the dangers of it for this country? He never proposed to the hooker nor had he shown interest in marrying another man.
As Bill O'Reilly and others have pointed out, once you pass same sex marriage, then plural marriages, underage marriages (legalizing pedophilia), etc. will follow.
The Russian experiment is case in point. Communist Party opposed marriage, did everything to weaken it and the family (along with other basic institutions), but then faced such serious problems that they were forced to going back to strengthening marriage and the family even though they hated doing it.
