COLORADO SPRINGS, Nov. 3 /Christian Newswire/ -- Focus on the Family founder and Chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today after learning the Rev. Ted Haggard had acknowledged some "indiscretions" involving accusations made against him by a gay prostitute in Denver:
"All of us at Focus on the Family are heartsick over the allegation, not yet confirmed, that Ted has had a private life with a homosexual for several years. We will await the outcome of this story, but the possibility that an illicit relationship has occurred is alarming to us and to millions of others.
"Ted has been my close friend and colleague for many years. He has been used mightily to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Colorado Springs and around the world. He will continue to be my friend, even if the worst allegations prove accurate. Nevertheless, sexual sin, whether homosexual or heterosexual, has serious consequences and we are extremely concerned for Ted, his family and his church.
"We ask that the Focus on the Family constituency and Christians everywhere pray for Ted and his loved ones. Our hearts go out to all of them. Perhaps the allegations are false and the circumstances are not as we have heard. Either way, the situation has grave implications for the Cause of Christ and we ask for the Lord's guidance and blessings in the days ahead."
Oh, boo hoo. This preacher stands shamed and accused. I guess I'd better not vote against same-sex marriage? Better cede control to Hollywood?
Maybe that was the intent, but I don't see how it'll work.
I've heard of Dobson, actually, I worked with him--but have never heard of Haggard. I have worked in religious publishing for a few years, and a disgraced leader was pretty par for the course. Made for delicious gossip in the editor's lounge for a day or two.
This idea that evangelicals are sheltered idiots may be what's behind all of this...and I can tell you from a literary standpoint--this whole scandal is contrived--utterly scripted. The day after this guy is accused, he comes out and makes it worse? Somebody is pulling some strings.
Perhaps you misunderstand. I'm not saying I'll say home. I'm simply saying I've had this argument with some I know.
Liberals want to view Christians as having a leader, a human leader, that they can point at when they stumble. And then they are confused when Christians aren't affected as they expect...it's because they simply can't accept that God is real and Jesus really IS Lord. For liberals it simply doesn't make sense.
What are you talking about?
He gets to keep the money, right?
...I can't connect your last post to me with this sentence????
I was replying to your post #128
but I still don't get the connection?
I think I'm lost in translation through the cyber waves?
> What does a scam artest caught in a drug deal and bi-sexual encounters have anything to do with how this country is going to be run in the near future?
Supposedly this Haggard often advised W. But the President's not running for anything this year... so I guess I still don't know the answer.
Hmm. I have to say I feel exactly the same way as you stated in post 41.
Never heard of him, either. After reading this far through the thread, I still don't know anything about him.
Because Dr Dobson's office is not more than two miles from Haggard's. They have been co-laborers and friends for a long time, and people expected Dr D to comment on his long-time friend.
I agree with you about Billy Graham. He's a great example.
I've been surprised by the amount of hostility toward him from quite a few Freepers though.
"indiscretions"
HA, thanks for making me spew!
that's rich!
