Earlier this month, I read a FR thread discussing unsolicited faxes... then today I received one of those offending faxes! Unfortunately, the earlier thread didn't come up with any answers regarding the initial poster's question: who keeps sending those unwanted faxes? As a Freeper since 01/98, I felt a civic duty to look into this matter that has troubled me & my fellows netizens.
The faxes, entitled "Hot Stocks On The Street", mention in the fine print that they are sent out by a company named Pathfinder Marketing. Pathfinder's faxes also mention that they took money from another company called Gemini Market News for the privilege of sending unsolicited faxes.
So a little googling found this item --> The Gary Halbert Letter
You'll note that Mr. Halbert's newsletter says to send payment in the form of a check made out to "Pathfinder Marketing"--the same company sending those unsolicited pump & dump stock tips to me & my fellow Freepers.
And just who is this Gary Halbert? Well, take a look at this little item from the US District Court in Massachuesetts --> Stock fraud bust, order to cease & desist
And here's this Google search result that indicates Mr. Halbert and his companies, Cherrywood Publishing and Bond Halbert, have gotten into quite a few spats with the SEC and other branches of the US government for securities and trade fraud.
So I faxed color-reversed copy of the unsolicited fax in question to Mr. Halbert's attorney, with an embedded request to have Mr. Halbert stop sending his unwanted faxes. I imagine this will use up quite a bit of his fax machine ink, which is just desserts and might add emphasis to the message: stop sending unsolicited faxes!
Anyway, some fellow Freepers asked earlier this month if the culprit had been found, and if anything was being done to stop him: the answer is yes, and yes!
Any chance you could include the fax number? I could see the 'need' they might have for some Freepers to extract some paybacks.
"any chance you could include the fax number?"
I did that in the original version, but an Admin yanked my post for that (reason = "DYOFDW").
Almost 9 years of Freeping, and I've never had a post or thread deleted before... guess I'm becoming quite the rebel in my old age! :))
This varies by State, of course, but in Florida it is against the law to send unsolicited faxes.
You may want to contact your state's attorney general office.
A few years ago I started getting faxes every 15 minutes. The problem was I didn't have a fax machine at that number so I couldn't read what they were sending.
After about 10 calls I got on FR and asked for help.
One of the better suggestions: get a piece of black paper and send it back to them. Do it about 20 times.

Perhaps you could/would FReepmail it to me?
They waste my employers fax machines ink and paper, and tie up the fax lines needlessly.
I am not a PC Geek, but I know several individuals who are, or have played one on TV...
Great work!
Look near the bottom of one of the linked documents (US Federal Court, District of Massachuesetts)... the court order listed several of the offending party's fax numbers.
Or, send 20 pieces of black paper...20 times.
But make sure it's black...
